Terrance "Terry" Earl Kidd

August 1, 1948 - December 1, 2012

Terry, a long-time resident of Humboldt, SK, passed away peacefully surrounded by family in Humboldt District Hospital on Saturday, December 1, 2012, after losing a long and courageous battle with heart disease. Terry will be sadly missed by his devoted and loving wife of 34 years, Audrey (nee Ilg) and son Sean, and all those who had the privilege of knowing him. Terry was born to Earl "Kelly" Johnston and Bernice Alma (nee Kohlen) Kidd in Tisdale Hospital, Tisdale, SK. He attended St. Augustine R.C. School and graduated from Humboldt Collegiate Institute. Terry worked at Serv-Us Foods, owned and operated by his late father Kelly and the late Joe Sollosy. During this time he, an avid sports fan, was delighted to referee hockey. Terry aspired to join the RCAF and follow in his father's footsteps, but life took him in another direction. Instead, Terry took employment with Metropolitan Security, stationed at Â鶹ÊÓƵ Indian Lake in Northern Manitoba. It was there, in the line of duty, that he suffered a serious snowmobile accident which left him with lifelong health problems requiring several leg and back surgeries. Terry returned to Humboldt and worked for a time at Ford Motors in the parts department and at Murray's Men's Wear. During that time, he met the love of his life, Audrey, and they were married on August 26, 1978. Terry and Audrey were blessed with a son, Sean. Terry then moved his family to Saskatoon, where he was employed with Tru Roc Gypsum and then Wheatland. Later, he attended Kelsey Institute and received his Refrigeration ticket, which led to employment at Jemini 4 Arenas at Grasswood, SK, where he was ice manager and was once again close to the sport he loved so much - hockey. Terry was an accomplished ice man and word quickly spread - he was approached by both the Florida and the Annaheim NHL franchises to train their staff on how to make ice, with relocation and employment an option. However, when the then Town of Humboldt offered him a position with Parks and Recreation, the family moved back to Humboldt. Terry was predeceased by his parents, Kelly (1982 - Macklin) and Bernice (2002 - Pilger); his brother-in-law, Gerald Ilg (2000); his father-in-law, Theodore Ilg (1988); and by numerous aunts and uncles. He is survived by his wife Audrey; son Sean (special friend Marsha); two sisters: Carynn (Kunio) Komiyama and family, Tom (Shannon) Phillips, and Jennifer (Shane) Donahue; and MaryJane (Kali) Szel and family, Koroly Szel, and Robyn (Tyler) Johnson; mother-in-law, Margaret (nee Bernauer) Ilg; brother-in-law, Jerome Ilg; sisters-in-law: Dolores (Leo) Nienaber and family, Virginia (Bruno) Olesen, and Shyan Waquan; and Bernadette (Alphonse) Hermann and family, Brynt Hermann, and Todd (Jennifer) Hermann; and by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Terry was a quiet and gentle soul, a devoted husband, a wonderful father, son and brother, a true role model, and a loyal and trustworthy friend. The love of his life was his family and that always included Audrey's family. Terry was generous with everything he had. He had an enduring sense of humor and an admirable sense of determination to always do his best, despite endless pain and discomfort. We who love him are comforted to know that he is in a better place, finally free from all pain and suffering. The Funeral Mass for Terry was offered at St. Augustine R.C. Church, Humboldt, (corner of Highway 5 and 10th. Street), on Wednesday, December 5, 2012, at 2:00 p.m., celebrated by Fr. Gregory Roth. Others taking part were: Jordan Donahue, crossbearer; Sean Kidd, urnbearer; Marsha Loessl and Jennifer Donahue, scripture readers; Bernadette Hermann, intentions; Brynt Hermann and Todd Hermann, giftbearers; Bernadette Hermann and Rita Theissing, memorial table attendants. Honorary pallbearers were "all those who shared in Terry's life". Interment will be held at a private ceremony at St. Augustine R.C. Cemetery in Spring 2013. Condolences to the family may be emailed to [email protected]. Memorial donations may be directed to either the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Royal Canadian Legion, Humboldt Branch #28. Schuler-Lefebvre Funeral Chapel, Humboldt, SK.
