Sister Johanna Vogelsang CSJP St. Joseph of Peace died peacefully on April 10, 2011 in Bellevue, WA. Sr. Johanna was born on August 23, 1915 and was raised on a farm near Muenster, Saskatchewan. She entered the community of the Sisters of St. Joseph in 1936. Over the past 75 years Sr. Johanna was a teacher, principal of Catholic schools in Bellevue, WA., supervised religious education programs in the archdiocese of Seattle and the Diocese of Fairbanks, Alaska and served in a variety of roles within the community of the sisters. During the last 25 years of her life she lived and served at St. Mary-on-the-Lake in Bellevue. Sr. Johanna celebrated her 75 jubilee on April 9, 2011. She is survived by her sister Clara Menz, sisters-in-law Ledwina Vogelsang and Inez Rosenberger. She is predeceased by her parents, August and Mary Vogelsang; brothers, Joseph, August and Bernard Vogelsang and Joe Corniere; two sisters, Agnes and Mary Vogelsang. Vigil service for Sister Johanna was held on Thursday, April 14 and the burial mass was celebrated on April 15. Both services were at Mary-on-the-Lake, Bellevue, WA.
