The passing of Mr. Sam Zawyrucha of Humboldt (formerly of Viscount) occurred on Sunday, October 7, 2012, at the Humboldt District Hospital. He was 88 years of age. Sam was born on March 23, 1924, to Mike and Pearl (nee Owchar) Zawyrucha in Preeceville, SK. He grew up on the family farm and attended Holycry Country School in the Preeceville area. On January 15, 1955, Sam married the love of his life, Violet Pearson in Preeceville. Together they raised a family of seven children. Sam worked as a grain buyer at Hazel Dell for five years; in 1957, he then changed careers and worked at the gold mine in Mattson, ON, for 10 years as a Station Engineer, then the Esterhazy Potash Mine for three years. In 1969, Sam and Violet moved to Viscount where he was employed at Noranda Potash in Colonsay for 20 years. In 1989, Sam retired from mining and took a job working for the Town of Viscount for two years. Sam enjoyed fishing, curling, camping and cooking. One of his biggest passions was gardening. Sam was known in Viscount as "Mr. Fix It," and no matter the task he was able to fix it. Sam was a very loving and caring person and was always willing to help anyone in need. Family was very important to Sam and he always enjoyed spending time with his family, his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Sam will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife of 57 years, Violet (nee Pearson); his seven children and 17 grandchildren: PERCY (Gloria) and family, David (Maisie), Lisa and Rochelle; AGNES (Tom) Viczko and family Jody and Gayle; TERRY (Corinne) and family Justin and Kaylee; DEBORAH (Ron) Baschuk and family Kim, Cory (Amanda), Kelly (Julie) and Kevin; BRENDA (Greg) Johb and family Tammy (Kris Miazga), Jesse and Joshua; LESLIE and daughter Sharissa; and DALE (Tara) and family Shelby and Shaelyn; nine great-grandchildren: Cole, Corbin, Austin, Teysen, Evrytt, Anyslee, Maddyx, Hayden, and Asher; two brothers: Paul and Nick; four sisters: Mary Enquist; Nettie Moskwa; Anne Hopkins; and Eva; and by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Sam was predeceased by his parents, Mike and Pearl (nee Owchar) Zawyrucha; five brothers: Walter, Tom, Bill, Metro and John; one sister, Kate Chornomitz; brother-in-law, Michael Chornomitz; and sister-in-law, Anne Zawyrucha.
