The death of Mrs. Ruth Emma (nee Gloeden) Schopp of Circle Drive Special Care Home, Saskatoon, SK, (and formerly of Middle Lake, SK, and Humboldt, SK), occurred at her residence on Tuesday, December 29, 2015. She was 99 years of age. Ruth was born to Walter and Bertha (nee Michel) Gloeden at home on their farm east of Middle Lake on Wednesday, September 6, 1916. She grew up there and attended Middle Lake Country School and then Humboldt Collegiate Institute. Following her high school education, Ruth took a hairdressing course and was employed at a few beauty parlours in Humboldt. On April 22, 1940, she married Carl Schopp in Humboldt. After their marriage, they resided in Lanigan where they operated a general store. In 1976, due to Carl’s failing health, the couple retired and moved back to Humboldt. Carl passed away in 1988.Ìý Ruth continued to live in Humboldt for another year and then relocated to Saskatoon. Initially, she resided at Lutheran Heights and a few years ago, became a resident of Circle Drive Special Care Home. Ruth loved it there and truly appreciated the loving care she received and enjoyed the friendships that were formed with staff and other residents alike. Over the years, her favorite pastimes were knitting and doing petit point. Ruth is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and many, many friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Carl Schopp; parents, Walter and Bertha (nee Michel) Gloeden; and by three brothers and two sisters: Leo (Louise) Gloeden, Lena (Fritz) Heidecker, Trudy (Ben) Kaun, Hugo (Zetta) Gloeden, and Otto (Elsie) Gloeden. The Funeral Service for Ruth was held at Schuler-Lefebvre Funeral Chapel, Humboldt, on Saturday, January 9, 2016, at 2:00 p.m., officiated by Pastor Robert Grout. The eulogy was delivered by Gwen Johner and Carl Heidecker was the urnbearer. Honorary pallbearers were Bernard Gloeden, Howard Gloeden and Jack Walmsley.
