Roman danced his first dance in heaven on Sunday, October 10, 2010. He was 88 years of age. Roman was born on June 1, 1922 to Herman and Catherine (nee Kuemper) Altrogge. He grew up on the farm 4 miles south-west of St. Benedict, farmed with his Pa until he died in 1963, continued farming with his sister Edna until she married in 1975, and then on his own until 1985, even after he moved to St. Benedict in 1980. Farming was always his first love and passion. Following a severe accident in 1954 when Roman lost the sight in one eye and much of the hearing in one ear, his Pa very strongly wanted them to quit farming. Roman persevered and convinced him to change his mind. His second love was family and friends - visiting, playing, working, going to dances and shows with his sisters and his Uncle Hubert's family. He lived a life dedicated to God and his faith in Him. He was very involved in "old" St. Benedict parish just south of the family farm and, later when that church closed, in St. Andrew's parish in St. Benedict. He was a Lifetime Honorary Member of the KC's. Truly a Good Samaritan, he was the unofficial chauffeur in St. Benedict, driving many people to appointments or anywhere else they needed to go. In his retirement years, Roman enjoyed traveling, visiting many places including Alaska, the Maritimes, Arizona and the Grand Canyon, Disneyland and Knott's Berry Farm. He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by two sisters: Mathilda (Henry) Renneberg of St. Benedict, and Edna (Steve) Swab of Wakaw; 11 nephews and nieces: Jerome (Lucille) Renneberg of Regina, Leroy (Bev) Renneberg of Cudworth, Cheryl (Lyle) Lepsenyi of St. Benedict, Yvonne (Kelly) Rustad of Calgary, AB, Marvin (Maureen) Renneberg of Muenster, Richard (Anita) Renneberg of Muenster, Gerry (Linda) Swab of Rosthern, Elden (Marj) Swab of Regina, Debbie (Lloyd) Jungwirth of Humboldt, Wayne (Lori) Swab of Calgary, AB, and Myrna (Randy) Chase of Virden, MB, and their families; numerous other relatives; and by many neighbors and friends. The open arms of his parents, Herman and Katie Altrogge, await him in heaven. The Prayer Service for Roman was held at St. Benedict R.C. Church, St. Benedict, on Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at 7:30 p.m., led by Allen Baumann and Shirley Altrogge. Others taking part were: Maureen Renneberg, scripture reader; Anita Renneberg, intentions; Jerome Renneberg, Marvin Renneberg and Cheryl Lepsenyi, words of remembrance. The Funeral Mass was offered at St. Benedict R.C. Church on Thursday, October, 14, 2010 at 2:00 p.m., celebrated Fr. Denis Phaneuf. Others taking part were: Tyler Renneberg, cross bearer; Myrna Chase and Yvonne Rustad, scripture readers; Anthony Renneberg, intentions; Mathilda Renneberg and Edna Swab, gift bearers. An honor guard was formed by members of the St. Benedict and Cudworth Knights of Columbus. Honorary pallbearers were Edward, Ervine, Leo and Edwin Altrogge, Arnold Korte and Brian Kuemper. Active pallbearers were Jerome, Leroy, Marvin and Richard Renneberg, and Gerry and Elden Swab. Interment will take place at a later date. Memorial donations may be directed to the St. Benedict Parish Fund or the Humboldt District Hospital Foundation. SCHULER-LEFEBVRE, Humboldt, SK.
