BERGOT: Rolande Aselina
September 13, 1924 - August 7, 2014
Rolande A. Bergot, eldest daughter of Francois and Eugenie (nee Robin) Bergot passed away peacefully in her sleep August 7th, 2014 in St. Brieux's Chateau Providence Special Care Home. She had been residing in either Melfort's Parkland Place or Chateau Providence since June 12th, 2002 when she suffered a stroke which left her partially paralysed and unable to speak.Rolande was raised on the family farm in St. Brieux, attended Lacombe School and St. Brieux High. She then attended Madeleine Guillet/Hunt's Sewing School, Saskatoon Teacher's College and the University of Saskatchewan. She first taught at Courval, SK, then Calgary, Pincher Creek, Duck Lake and many years in St. Brieux. She was very athletic and had a competitive spirit. In her youth and her teaching career she was involved in various sports as a player or coach. An avid curler she and her team mates often took home a trophy from various local bonspiels. Other hobbies included: cake decorating, sewing, horseback riding (especially in the Alberta Foothills) reading, watching hockey, picking berries or just driving around to look at crops and gardens and enjoying the prairie scenery.Rolande loved gardening, and always had a "Showcase Flower and Vegetable Garden". She also grew a lot of vegetables in the Parish garden with the help of some of her class students. Upon harvesting the veggies in the Parish garden Rolande and some students would then distribute the abundant harvest to Friendship Inn in Prince Albert and/or various institutions.Every chance she had she'd pick up her two nephews and one niece and off they would go, be it to the show in St. Brieux, the Fair in Melfort, shopping in Prince Albert, or Saskatoon Exhibition, whatever, it didn't take much of an excuse for them to takeoff on various excursions. Her brother-in-law Paul, and sister Lilianne never worried when the kids were with Rolande for they knew their children were not only safe, but with someone that made good morals and ethical values a high priority.Rolande will be lovingly remembered by her sister; Lilianne (Paul) Leray, nephews: Paul-Emile Leray (Tokyo, Japan); David (Hayley) Leray and family (Mackenzy, Maxwell) Great Falls, MT); and niece Celeste Leray-Leicht (Kurt) and family, (Jacob, Isaac, Kiana, Karysa) (Humboldt, SK).Rolande was predeceased by her father in 1962, her mother in 1978 and her brother Denis on September 24th, 2013.The family would like to express their thanks to the doctors and staff at Parkland Place in Melfort and Chateau Providence in St. Brieux for the excellent care they provided to Rolande.Vigil of prayer was held on Friday, August 15, 2014 at 7:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, August 16, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. Both services were held at St. Brieux Roman Catholic Church.
