RICHARD HENRY PLACSKO

Richard Henry Placsko passed away peacefully in his residence on February 28, 2013 at the age of 72 years. Richard was born on February 24, 1941 in Humboldt, SK. He was raised on the family farm in the Miora Lake district, west of St. Brieux, SK. His school days were spent at Miora Lake School until 1956. After this time, he began his farming career. In the winters he would leave to work at various places such as; building the Gardner Dam in Outlook, a sawmill in Prince George, BC, as a cook for a mine in northern Manitoba, in a diamond mine in Lynn Lake, MB and other such jobs. In 1960 Richard was devastated by the loss of his much loved, younger brother Louis. In 1965 he married Jeannine Carfantan. In 1969, Richard and Jeannine moved to the current Placsko farm just west of St. Brieux. Together they raised five daughters: Cheryl, Sandra, Cindy, Karen and Susan. Richard loved to farm and instilled the values of respect and appreciation for the land into his children. He also loved to hunt. Both big game and fowl were often targeted in Richard's accurate sights. He enjoyed hosting friends as they hunted in the area. Richard had a very good sense of humour with his wit bringing laughs and chuckles to many. He loved to read and was very knowledgeable about the history of the area and its families. If there was something he didn't know he would look for the answer in one of his many history books. In 1999 Richard suffered a stroke and his ability to farm and hunt became limited. In 2000 he suffered another stroke and was no longer able to participate in many of the outdoor activities he loved. Even though Richard endured his share of earthly struggles, he truly valued his family, community and the natural environment. In 2005 Richard moved into the Chateau Providence special care home in St. Brieux. The staff at the Chateau could always count on a Werther's candy when they stopped in at Richard's room or tended to any of his needs. His loving wife, Jeannine, visited daily and brought him his limit of $1 scratch & win tickets. Richard loved to spend time with his adored grandchildren. He enjoyed the smiles on their faces as he handed them each a small "dose" of jelly beans when they visited. He was very saddened by the death of his young granddaughter, Rayna, in 2011. Richard will be remembered by his wife, Jeannine; his daughters Cheryl (Don Keiller), Sandra (Michael Korte; Paige, Sierra), Cindy (Rayna †), Karen (Randal Freriks; Haley, Andrew), Susan (Scott Davis; Samantha, Madisyn); his sister Caroline Badinski, his brother Ken Placsko, and their families. He was predeceased by his parents Henry and Meline (Pilon) Placsko, his brother Louis Placsko and his granddaughter Rayna Korte.
Richard requested that there not be a funeral service. His family will host a Memorial Come and Go Lunch on Saturday, March 16 at 2:00-4:00pm at the New Horizons Drop-In Centre in St. Brieux. An interment ceremony will be held at a later date. Memorial donations can be made to the RM Cemetery Fund - RM of Lake Lenore, Box 280, St. Brieux, SK S0K 3V0.
