HOLTVOGT: Regina Helen

June 14, 1919 - August 2, 2013

It is with sadness that the family of Mrs. Regina (nee Schimnosky) Holtvogt of St. Mary's Villa, Humboldt, SK (formerly of Annaheim, SK) announces her passing on Friday, August 2, 2013 at her residence. She was 94 years of age. Regina was born on June 14, 1919 to Michael and Regina (nee Frederick) Schimnosky in Humboldt, SK. Regina grew up on the family farm in the Carmel district and attended school in Carmel, SK. Upon completion of her schooling she worked at various homes as a hired girl. The last place that she worked was at the home of August and Mary Barlage. This was the place where romance bloomed, when she met her future husband Hans Holtvogt, who was Mary's brother. Regina and Hans were married on October 26, 1943 in Carmel. They lived on the farm near Annaheim and she worked alongside Hans. Their first child, Herb was born on August 16, 1944, then Dennis on December 25, 1945, Doris on August 8, 1948 and Vern on April 30, 1952. When Hans passed away in 1954, Regina continued to live on the farm. She lived there until June 5, 2012 at which time she moved to St. Mary's Villa. She loved sewing and sewed for numerous people in the community. She enjoyed gardening and loved playing solitaire which she sometimes stayed up until midnight playing. Other activities she also enjoyed were bowling, bingo, listening and singing along to music, especially polka music. She faithfully watched mass every morning on TV and prayed the rosary. Regina was well known for her baking (long johns being her specialty), and Christmas Eve was always held at Regina's house up until 2006. She was the last surviving member of her generation of the Holtvogt family. Family was everything to Regina; they came first before anything else. Regina will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her family: Herb (Lorraine) Holtvogt of Annaheim, SK, and their family, Rev. Anita Holtvogt, Karleen (Darwin) Crone and children Zane and Reece, Jason (Deanna) Holtvogt and children Brady, Seth, Landyn (and soon to arrive baby), and Lynette (Ryan) Sobchyshyn and children Skylar and Gavin; Dennis Holtvogt of Annaheim, SK; Doris (Leo) Willenborg of Annaheim, SK, and their family, Dean (Andrea) Willenborg and children Miranda, Matthew, Jenna and Rachel; Evan (Wendy) Willenborg and children Brianne, Morgan and Claire; Neil (Kerby) Willenborg (and soon to arrive baby); Vern (Nola) Holtvogt of Naicam, SK, and their family Leanne Holtvogt; Tanya (Darren) Craddock and children Emilie and Jayden; and Mitchell Holtvogt (Natasha Minakakis); sisters: Mary Overholt of Fort McLeod, AB, and Anne (Jerry) Brown of Newmarket, ON; brother, Leonard Schimnosky of Australia; sister-in-law, Rose Schimnosky of Humboldt, SK; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Hans (1954); parents, Michael and Regina (nee Frederick) Schimnosky (1965); grandson, Ryan Willenborg (1977); great-grandson, Michael Willenborg (2009); brothers: Michael Schimnosky, Ben (Mary) Schimnosky, John Schimnosky, and Tony Schimnosky; sister, Catherine Schimnosky; sister-in-law, Norma Schimnosky; and brother-in-law, Elmer Overholt.
