The family of Phyllis Nett is deeply saddened to announce her sudden passing at her cabin at Wakaw Lake on June 20, 2013 at the age of 82 years. Phyllis was born and grew up on a farm in the Wilmont District north of Bruno, SK. There she met a local farmer, Joe who was to become the love of her life and they were married in 1951, setting up their first home on the Nett farm. Soon after the birth of their daughter Sandra, they moved to their first home in Bruno. Having been raised on a farm, Phyllis knew farm machinery and farming activities so she soon became Joe's number one hired hand. Partners at work as well as in life. In addition to her farming efforts, Phyllis also worked in the kitchen at St. Ursula's Academy in Bruno, using her culinary skills to nourish the boarding students as well as the Sisters in the Convent. Phyllis' warmth, friendliness and sense of humour brought much joy to convent life. After many years of hard work on both their parts, Phyllis and Joe were blessed with a relatively early retirement. They were able to enjoy the company of many friendships during their summer spent at Wakaw Lake. Phyllis loved to fish and compete with Joe over who was catching the big ones. She always insisted that of the two big pickerel mounted over their fireplace, hers was the bigger. For many years, Phyllis and Joe spent much of the winter in Mesa, Arizona trading Bruno's cold and snow for sunshine and grapefruit trees. After Joe's passing, Phyllis continued to spend winters in Arizona with her girlfriends. But her favourite place was Wakaw Lake and she looked forward to moving to the cabin for each and every summer. Phyllis and Joe also helped build the Pantella cabin near Invermere, B.C. and made several trips each year to Calgary and the Cabin to visit and entertain their granddaughters Danielle and Nicole. It became a tradition to celebrate Christmas all together at the cabin and Phyllis continued to do so every year. Phyllis led a very full social life and enjoyed a wide circle of friendships no matter where she was. She also enjoyed being around young people, hearing their stories and also entertaining them with some stories of her own. Phyllis had a special place in her heart for her great-grandchildren and enjoyed being around them or hearing of their latest antics. Phyllis will be dearly remembered by her daughter Sandra (Philip) Pantella of Calgary, her granddaughters Danielle (Jeff) Hagel and Nicole (Derrick) Frechette both also of Calgary, her great-grandsons Joshua and Jacob Hagel, her great-granddaughter Joelle Frechette, her aunt Rose Eckl, her sister-in-law Gen Doetzel and many nieces, nephews, relatives and dear friends. She was predeceased by her husband Joe, her parents Theodore and Barbara (nee Weyland) Doetzel, her older brother Art Doetzel, her younger sister Eileen McLean and her brother-in-law Don McLean. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the St. Bruno Roman Catholic Church in Bruno, SK., on Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Fr. Joseph Ackerman as celebrant. Interment of the Urn will follow in the St. Bruno Roman Catholic Cemetery. Donations in memory of Phyllis may be directed to the Bruno Friendship Centre. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Marc Blondeau of Kushneryk Funeral Service, Wakaw, SK.
