Peter N. Thoms

February 11, 1929 - November 4, 2012

It is with great sadness that the family of Peter Nick Thoms of Bruno, SK, announces his passing on Sunday, November 4, 2012, at Humboldt District Hospital, Humboldt, SK, at the age of 83 years. Peter was born to Nick and Mary (nee Smood) Thoms on February 11, 1929, at Humboldt. He spent his childhood years with his family on the farm in the Bruno district and attended school at Mount Carmel, later continuing his education at Bruno. As a young man, Peter began to learn the trade he would make his own - farming. On June 8, 1957, he married Elizabeth Slywka at Vonda, SK, and spent the next 26 years sharing his love and life with her. They made their home in Bruno where they were blessed with 10 children. Peter and Elizabeth both shared a strong interest in farming, dedicating endless hours of hard work. This interest and strong work ethics would be later passed on and instilled in their children. On January 9, 1983, Peter lost the love of his life, Elizabeth. From then, he quickly learned to take on the role of two parents, continuing to raise their children, instilling their values and beliefs, and making his children top priority in his life. Peter will always be remembered for his many acts of kindness, his nurturing abilities, and his selfless acts of putting others first before himself. Peter will be deeply missed by his family and friends. He will be forever remembered by his 10 children, 25 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren: Sonia Thoms of Saskatoon; Gordon (Donna) Thoms of Cudworth, SK, and family, Jennifer, Ashley and Jamie; Shirley (Darcy) Leonew of Humboldt and family, Jennifer, Carla (fiance Trevor Stevenson), and Chelsea; Gloria (Larry) Sorokoski of Bruno and family, Kimberly (Glenn) and children Jay and Kiley, Kayla (Travis) and children Paige and Trinity, Lindsay, Michael, and Kendra; Eugene Thoms of Humboldt; Linda (Myles) Weiman of Lloydminster, AB, and family Tyler (Katrina), and Ashley; Richard (Cindy) Thoms of Bruno and family, Riley, Aleah, Morgan and Rhyse; Theresa (Wayne) Paydli of Saskatoon and daughter Alyssa; Laverne (Sherry) Thoms of Bruno and family, Kalem, Brianna, Tori, Reagen and Danen; and Jeffrey Thoms of Lloydminster, AB, and family, Courtney and Emiley; and by numerous brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth (nee Slywka) Thoms (January 9, 1983); parents, Nick and Mary (nee Smood) Thoms; one brother, John Thoms; daughter-in-law, Dawn Thoms; nephews: Derek Thoms and Gerard Thoms; and by numerous in-laws.
