ARNOLD, Olive "Doris"

The death of Mrs. Olive "Doris" (nee Vik) Arnold of Watson, SK, occurred at Humboldt District Hospital, Humboldt, SK, on Friday, January 18, 2013. She was 91 years of age, and the last surviving member of her generation. Doris, the fifth child in a family of six, was born on February 20, 1921, to Gilbert and Petra (nee Peterson) Vik at Hawarden, SK. She began her primary education at Avonlea Rural School. In 1933, the Vik family moved to a farm near LeRoy, SK. Doris attended Linton Rural School where she completed her Grade 4. At an early age, she learned to work hard. She helped with chores on the family farm, and was employed as a hired girl and a babysitter for many families in the area. In the early 1960s, Doris moved to Regina, SK, and worked as a mother's helper at various homes. During that time, she met Emmett Arnold and, on December 25, 1965, they were married in LeRoy. Doris and Emmett began their life together in Regina, where Doris worked at a restaurant. Eventually, she and Emmett relocated to Rocanville, SK. Emmett worked at the potash mine there and Doris became a full-time homemaker. Ultimately, they returned to Regina. Doris entered the workforce again and was employed as a homecare worker. Emmett passed away in May 1991. A few years later, Doris moved to Watson, her home until the present. Doris will be lovingly remembered by her sister-in-law, Leota Vik of Nipawin, SK; sister-and-brother-in-law, Joyce and Bert Blazek of Innisfree, AB; and by numerous nieces, nephews and their families. She was predeceased by her husband, Emmett Arnold (May 1991); parents, Gilbert and Petra (nee Peterson) Vik; four sisters and one brother: Anna Ostmoen, Myrtle Lister, Gladys Thoen, Clara Bone and Norman Vik; and by many nieces and nephews. The Funeral Service for Doris was held at Schuler-Lefebvre Funeral Chapel, Humboldt, on Wednesday, January 23, 2013, at 11:00 a.m., officiated by Rev. Brenda Curtis. Music ministry was provided by organist Tanya Wuchner. The eulogy was delivered by Brian Thoen. Honorary pallbearers were "all those who shared in Doris' life". Active pallbearers were Leslie Thoen, Wayne Thoen, Warren Thoen, Stacey Vik, Cathy Ferland and Maureen Hiebert. Interment followed at Regina Memorial Gardens, Regina.
