August 10, 1920 – May 27, 2016

“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our wonderful mother, grandmother “Baba”, and great-grandmother, Olga (nee Motelaga) Sawicki of St. Mary’s Villa Humboldt, SK, (and formerly of Bruno, SK), at her residence on Friday, May 27, 2016.” She was 95 years of age. Olga was born to John Sr. and Dora (nee Boyko) Motelaga on Tuesday, August 10, 1920, at home on their farm in the Meacham district. On November 16, 1939, she married John Sawicki Sr. Together, they farmed southeast of Bruno and raised their children: After retiring, Olga and John moved into the town of Bruno. Olga was a kind, loving, and generous person. She loved gardening, flowers, and having coffee and dainties with family and friends. As well, Olga spent many fulfilling hours doing crafts and making perogies. She also had a garage sale once a year, particularly for the social aspect, as she loved meeting people. Olga’s memory will be cherished by her children and 12 grandchildren: Elsie (Jack) McLeod of Saskatoon, SK, and family, Darrell (Pam) McLeod, Shelley (Arron) Miller, and Lorrie (Sean) Georget; Ann (Eddie ) Kocay of Prud’homme, SK, and daughter, Shannon Kocay (fiancé Brian Wourms); Frances (Terry) Torgerson of Elfros, SK, and family, Bonnie (Aaron) Dorish, Sherry Torgerson, and Michael Torgerson; Johnny Sawicki Jr. of Bruno, SK; a special granddaughter who was raised as a daughter, Lynda (Monty) Kovlaske of Humboldt, SK, and family, Chad Kovlaske (Dover Champaigne), and Shawn Kovlaske; daughters-in-law: Betty Sawicki of Bruno, SK, and family, Carrie (Dave) Ebner, and Mark Sawicki, and Paula Kramer of Bruno, SK, and daughter Brenda (Troy) Behiel; 17 great-grandchildren; and by numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, John Sawicki Sr.; two sons: Joseph (Rosemarie) Sawicki, and Raymond Sawicki; two grandchildren: Brian Kocay and Darren Kocay (both in infancy); one great-grandchild, Nathan Miller (in childhood); parents, John and Dora (nee Boyko) Motelaga; four brothers: Bill (Beatrice) Motelaga, Joe (Rose) Motelaga, Frank (Pauline) Motelaga, and Peter Motelaga (in infancy); and by one sister, Mary Yanciw. The Prayer Service for Olga was held at St. Bruno R.C. Church, Bruno, on Tuesday, May 31, 2016, at 7:30 p.m., led by Fr. Joseph Ackerman, OSB. Scripture readers were Brenda Behiel and Lorrie Georget, and the eulogy was delivered by Lynda Kovlaske and Shannon Kocay. The Funeral Mass was offered at St. Bruno R.C. Church on Wednesday, June 1, 2016, at 10:30 a.m., celebrated by Fr. Joseph Ackerman, OSB. Others taking part were: Tyler Behiel, cross bearer; Brenda Behiel and Lorrie Georget, scripture readers; Shelley Miller, intentions; Tori-Lynn Behiel and Capri Ebner, gift bearers; Katherine Kramer and Linda Batza, memorial table attendants. Music ministry for both the Prayer Service and the Funeral Mass was provided by organist Annie Moritz and the St. Bruno Parish Choir. Honorary pallbearers were “all those who shared in Olga’s life”. Active pallbearers were Darrell McLeod, Lorrie Georget, Chad Kovlaske, Shawn Kovlaske, Shannon Kocay, and Shelley Miller. Interment followed at St. Bruno R.C. Cemetery. Memorial donations may be directed to either the St. Mary’s Villa Foundation or the St. Bruno Parish Fund. Schuler-Lefebvre Funeral Chapel, Humboldt, SK.
