Michael SternerSeptember 13, 1937 - September 17, 2011 The death of Mr. Michael Sterner of St. Brieux, SK, occurred at his residence on Saturday, September 17, 2011. He was 74 years of age. Michael, one in a family of 14 children, was born on September 13, 1937, to John Sr. and Kathrina (nee Aschenbrenner) Sterner at home on their farm north of Annaheim. He grew up there and attended Leavenworth Rural School. Following his education, Michael worked on the family farm. Eventually, he moved to a farm east of St. Brieux. As well as farming there, he was employed by Kirsch Construction. In 2000, he retired from farming but continued to live in his home there until 2006, when he moved into St. Brieux. Michael had a volunteering spirit and loved to help people, especially after moving into town. He worked at many jobs in the community and ran errands for anyone who needed assistance. In his leisure time, Michael enjoyed curling, both as a participant and as a spectator, playing Buck and other card games with his buddies, going for coffee and visiting at the local café, and spending time with his beloved nieces and nephews. A true people-person, he was a good friend to all, and always said hello to everyone he met as he went about his day. Michael will be lovingly remembered by five sisters and six brothers: Mary (Ben) Roenspies of St. Brieux; Margaret Albers and Agnes Schemenauer, both of Humboldt; Joe Sterner of Lake Lenore; Alois (Lydia) Sterner of Melfort; Adolph Sterner of Saskatoon; Alfred Sterner of Lake Lenore; Helen (Donald) Hueser of Pilger; Annamarie Teiber of Lake Lenore; George (Madeline) Sterner of Melfort; and Dave Sterner of Whitehorse, YT; brother-in-law, Jim Meyers of Humboldt; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
