MEIDL: Mervyn (Tex)
Dec 20, 1950 - June 12, 2014
Mervyn passed away peacefully in his home in Yellowknife at the age of 63, after a short battle with cancer. Mervyn Norbert Meidl was born in Humboldt, SK, to Louis and Louise (Baumann) Meidl. He spent his early years in St. Benedict, SK, completing high school at St. Peter's College in Muenster, SK, before taking an accounting course at SIAST in Moose Jaw. He worked in accounting in Saskatoon and St. Benedict for several years, before moving to Yellowknife in 1973. He worked for a short period at Giant Mine, and then for Mike's Moving. In 1979 he became the manager of Western Moving for the next 20 years. After that he worked as a courier and then for Matco Transportation until this year. Tex was an avid CFL and hockey fan, a strong supporter of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and the Detroit Red Wings. Tex loved to spend time with friends - in Las Vegas, fishing, and at the old Elks Club. Mervyn was predeceased by his father Louis (1971) and his two brothers Brian (2008) and Dennis (2012). He will be lovingly remembered by his mother Louise (Rudy) Kurja of St. Benedict, two sisters Rosemary (Bryan) Foley of Quill Lake, SK, and Laura (Keith) Brodbin of Edmonton, two brothers Greg (Brenda) and Michael both of Edmonton, and two sisters-in-law Margaret Korosi of Humboldt and Olene Meidl of Edmonton, as well as many nieces, nephews, and many good friends. Mervyn's final resting place will be on his father's grave at St. Benedict Cemetery. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2014 at 10:30 at St. Benedict Church. The family would like to thank the staff of Stanton Hospital, Dr. Banner, and the Yellowknife Home Care team for their exceptional and compassionate care during his final weeks at home.
