Maurice Edward Baker of the Annaheim district passed away peacefully on Friday, July 9, 2010, at Humboldt District Hospital, Humboldt, SK. He was 82 years of age. Maurice was born to Charles and Ida (nee Stammen) Baker on May 6, 1928, in Unity, SK. A quiet man, he valued family, honesty and hard work. Maurice had a love of nature and the outdoors. A farmer all his life, he took great joy in gardening. Some of his happiest moments were spent on skis, whether that be on water or cross-country ski trails with good friends. Maurice is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Shirley (nee Dosman) Baker; one son, Kim (Wendy) Baker; one daughter, Sue (Dave) Slaght; three grandchildren: Ellen Baker, and Jordan and Robyn Slaght; four step-grandchildren: Dustin (Anna) Luther and their children Sasha and Peter; Seatyn (Michael) Steele and their daughter Audrey; Aerika Engel (Seth Payne) and their son Landen; and Mariel Engel; one brother, Dave (Darlene) Stammen; numerous nieces and nephews; and by a special circle of friends. He was predeceased by his parents; two brothers and one sister: George Baker, Olive (Ed) Kramer, and Jim (Helen) Baker; and by his uncle and aunt, Roman and Bertha Stammen, who raised him from the age of 12. The Prayer Service for Maurice was held at St. Ann's R.C. Church, Annaheim, on Wednesday, July 14, at 7:30 p.m. Scripture readers were Kim Baker and Sue Slaght. The Funeral Mass was offered at St. Ann's R.C. Church on Thursday, July 15, at 10:00 a.m., concelebrated by Fr. Richard Meidl, OSB, and Fr. Rudolph Novecosky, OSB. Others taking part were Christopher Altrogge, cross bearer; Cara Dosman and Robyn Slaght, scripture readers; Audrey Dosman, intercessions; and Cody, Brandon, Courtney and Justin Stammen, gift bearers. Music ministry was provided by Lorraine Holtvogt and the St. Ann's Parish Choir. Pallbearers were Brent, David and Murray Stammen, John Dosman, Jordan Slaght, and David Altrogge. Cremation committal took place at 6:00 p.m., on Thursday, July 15, at St. Ann's R.C. Cemetery.
