Mrs. Mary Koob (nee Hofmann), 90 years, of St. Mary's Villa Humboldt passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 15, 2011 at her residence. Mary was born on August 4, 1920 in Humboldt to Joseph and Anna Hofmann (nee Loehr). She grew up on the family farm in the Muenster area and attended St. Frances School. Following her education Mary ventured out to Kamloops and obtained employment at a bakery, eventually she returned back to Saskatchewan and helped family and neighbours with domestic duties. It was at Con Hinz's wedding that Mary met the love of her life, Anthony Koob. They were married on April 22, 1952 at St. Peter's Cathedral in Muenster. Together they began their life in the Meacham area where they ran a grain farm close to the Koob homestead. Mary and Tony were blessed with four children. Mary loved to garden where she would spend hours attending to her vegetable and flower gardens. Mary's specialties were her raspberries and potatoes. Later she got some chickens and decided to become an entrepreneur in the egg business, she had a regular sales route that went all the way to Saskatoon. Mary was very talented and was able to create wonderful dresses and outfits for the children. In her pastime she loved to read, knit, crochet and enjoy the sights and sounds of the birds. She loved to sing German Songs and in her younger years her and her sisters could be heard on radio singing on amateur hour, a major highlight of her life. Family and her faith were always important to her, she loved being surrounded by her children and grandchildren. Mary and Tony were fortunate to travel to Europe, Ontario, Alberta, BC, Nova Scotia and many places in Saskatchewan. In 1988 they moved into Humboldt and she continued to garden but on a smaller scale. She loved visiting and spending time with her neighbours and going to the Villa to bring cheer to the residents. Mary also enjoyed volunteering at the Humboldt Good Neighbour Store and delivering Meals On Wheels. In 2005 due to failing health Mary moved to the enriched housing section of St. Mary's Villa where she adapted well and continued to visit and bring cheer to many.
