CADMAN (NEE SCHREINER): MARY (JANE)
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Mary (Jane) Cadman, née Schreiner on October 4, 2012 at Grand Forks, B.C. Mary was born on Dec 25, 1948 in Humboldt, Sk, third daughter to Lawrence and Hedwig Schreiner. She was raised on the family farm, attending elementary school at Burton Lake School and high school at Humboldt Collegiate Institute. Mary attended university in Regina for one year but circumstances did not allow completion. It was to her regret that Mary did not achieve a university degree but that did not stop her from achieving success in her chosen career in Information Systems. Starting out as an analyst assistant in data processing, she completed her career in Information Systems as an Applications Development Manager for a resource company. Mary and Robert married in 1991. After surviving treatment for breast cancer very shortly after their marriage, they sought a quieter life style away from the city of Calgary and bought an acreage near Carbon, AB where they resided for 14 years. Mary was much involved in the community, devoting thousands of hours to the preservation of one of the few remnants of Carbon's history, the Farmers' Exchange building. Mary and Robert retired to Grand Forks from Calgary in 2007 and Mary very much enjoyed her time here. She became actively involved in the Grand Forks Guild Connection, the Sunshine Quilters, the Boundary Spinners & Weavers, and the Focus on Fibre Association. Mary had a great love for the arts, performing, visual and literary. She loved to create things, particularly in fibre. Mary was an adventurous quilter, knitter, weaver, rug hooker, spinner - to her chagrin she left with many fibres yet unexplored. She discovered weaving and spinning since she came to Grand Forks and enjoyed them enormously. Mary treasured her time with her grandchildren. In the summers Mary and Bob spent time at the lake, camping, cooking and exploring British Columbia with her grandsons. Mary looked forward to every visit and phone call - her time spent with her granddaughters and grandsons was precious. All were outfitted in Mary's hand-made garments and quilts. Mary enjoyed travel but travelled primarily in North America. In 2007, she happily achieved a goal of seeing Australia. She enjoyed visits to see family and friends in the Northwest Territories, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Quebec, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. Mary jumped in with both feet, pursuing things passionately and optimistically. She was always sure it could be done in less time and with less effort than everyone else thought so she generally made it happen! She volunteered at many things over the years. Her most passionate volunteer project was working on the restoration of the Farmers' Exchange Building in Carbon, AB. Things that shaped Mary include her special birthday, growing up on a farm, attending a one room school, anyone who said there was something she could not do, being one of six daughters, her experience with cancer, and those she met because of it. Mary leaves behind her husband of twenty years, Robert Cadman of Grand Forks; daughter Tanya Krueger (Brian Asmundson) of Yellowknife, NT; grandsons Roman and Carson Asmundson; son Robert Kossick (Jacqueline) of Edmonton, AB; granddaughters Danaea and Cayley Kossick; step-sons John (Amy) Cadman of Calgary, AB, and Michael (Nancy) Cadman of Canmore, AB; grandson Olin Cadman, sisters Annette (Bill) Krayetski of Prince Albert, SK, Ayesha (Didier Petrus) Schreiner of Montreal, SK, Eileen Woodham of Humboldt, SK, Donna Schreiner of Regina, SK; and ten nieces and nephews. Mary was predeceased by her parents, Lawrence and Hedwig (Kloppenburg) Schreiner, sister Lorraine Hartmann, and brother- in-law Richard Woodham. A graveside service for Mary will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Cemetery, Humboldt. A gathering for family and friends will follow at the Bella Vista Inn. Local arrangements entrusted to Malinoski & Danyluik Funeral Home, Humboldt.
