Mary A. BrockmeyerNovember 15, 1919 - October 3, 2011The death of Mrs. Mary A. (nee Messmer) Brockmeyer of Bethany Pioneer Village, Middle Lake, SK, (and formerly of Humboldt, SK), occurred at her residence on Monday, October 3, 2011. She was 91 years of age and the last surviving member of her generation. Mary was born on November 15, 1919, to Casper and Elizabeth (nee Schafer) Messmer at Govenlock, SK. Because those were very difficult times during that era, her parents moved around a lot trying to make a living farming. Therefore, Mary was raised and attended school in various southern Saskatchewan locations. Eventually, the Messmer family settled down in an area south of Humboldt near Stoney Lake. In March 1935, Mary and Henry Brockmeyer were married in Humboldt. Two children, a son and a daughter, were born to them. The Brockmeyers made their home on a farm between Fulda and Dixon. On August 11, 1983, Henry passed away in Kitimat, BC, while visiting family. After Henry's death, Mary moved into a house in Humboldt. Their son Ed took over the farming operation and continues to reside there with his wife Isabelle. On her birthday, November 15, 1996, Mary relocated to a condo at Village Green in Humboldt. Later, due to failing health, she became a resident of Connie's Care Home and lived there until six months ago when a final move was made to Bethany Pioneer Village in Middle Lake. Over the years, Mary enjoyed doing crafts, sewing, gardening and preserving the produce she harvested. Her baking and cooking were second-to-none, especially the way she prepared both tame and wild game. Mary had always loved singing and was a member of the Seniors Singing Group. A strong-willed lady, she never complained or backed down from hard work, adversity, or the health issues that caused her great pain. Mary will be lovingly remembered by her son, Edward (Isabelle) Brockmeyer of Humboldt; daughter, Frances (Ted) Hrynkiw of Kitimat, BC, and family, Donna Hrynkiw (Robert Miller), Susan (James) Turner and their family Katie, Robert, Christopher, Mary-Anna and Bethany; Ronald (Julie) Hrynkiw and their family Aidan and Amilie; and David (Cheryl) Hrynkiw and their family Julianna and Dason; sister-in-law, Hilda Messmer of Lethbridge, AB; and by numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Henry Brockmeyer (1983); parents, Casper and Elizabeth (nee Schafer) Messmer; and by all her siblings: Michael (Agnes) Messmer, Mathias Messmer, Barb (Lawrence) Novits, Adam (Kay) Messmer, Jack Messmer, and Casper (Carmel) Messmer. The Prayer Service for Mary was held at Schuler-Lefebvre Funeral Chapel, Humboldt, on Thursday, October 6, 2011, at 7:30 p.m., led by Marlene van Dresar and organist Marie Aubin. Scripture readers were Donna Hrynkiw and Susan Turner, and the eulogy was delivered by members of Mary's family. The Funeral Mass was offered at St. Augustine R.C. Church, Humboldt, on Friday, October 7, 2011, at 2:30 p.m., celebrated by Fr. Emile April. Others taking part were: Kathy Becker, cross bearer; Donna Hrynkiw and Susan Turner, scripture readers; Anne Messmer, intentions; Ed and Isabelle Brockmeyer and Fran and Ted Hrynkiw, gift bearers. Pallbearers were David, Ron and Donna Hrynkiw, Susan Turner, Allan Brockmeyer and Randy Stroeder. Interment followed at St. Augustine R.C. Cemetery, Humboldt.
