STROEDER: MARINA
May 17, 2013
It is with profound sadness that the family of Ms. Marina Stroeder of Humboldt, SK, announces her tragic death, which occurred on Friday, May 17, 2013, at Humboldt. Marina, the eldest of 18 children, was born at St. Elizabeth's Hospital, in Humboldt, SK, to Anthony and Mary (nee Albers) Stroeder. She was raised on the family farm one-and-a-half miles north of Marysburg. It was there where she was taught the importance of hard work, ethics and responsibility. Marina attended St. Angela's School in Marysburg, where she attained part of her Grade 9 after which she stayed home for several years to help on the farm. She then went on to work at Richman's Department Store for two-and-a-half years before deciding to further her education at the Ursuline Academy in Bruno. In 1961, Marina enrolled in the diploma nursing course at St. Elizabeth's Hospital and graduated in 1964. She then worked at St. Elizabeth's Hospital for 18 years, the last 15 as head nurse on the surgical floor and recovery room. She loved it with a passion. After taking a short break from the hospital, Marina then worked as a nurse at St. Mary's Villa for 14 years until her retirement in 2000. Marina loved to play softball; as a teenager she played second base for the Marysburg Royalettes. She also had numerous other hobbies and interests, such as fishing, watching others hunt, and gardening. Marina was a kind, caring and loving person, who always had a smile on her face.
