HOFMANN:Margaret Gertrude
The peaceful death of Mrs. Margaret Gertrude Hofmann (nee Bergerman), 93 years of St. Mary's Villa, Humboldt and formerly of Muenster, occurred on Sunday, December 22, 2013. Margaret was born on May 11, 1920 at home on the family farm in the Muenster district to William and Mary (nee Dreckmann) Bergerman. She grew up on the farm, attending school at the Monastery School in Muenster. Following her education, Margaret worked for various families in the area, helping with domestic duties. She married George Hofmann on July 14, 1942 and they farmed in the Muenster area. Margaret was kept busy helping on the farm and raising their family of nine. When not busy working, she enjoyed quilting, music and playing the piano. She liked watching sports, curling being one of her favorites and she was an avid Blue Jays fan. Margaret belonged to St. Peter's CWL and the Christian Mothers and enjoyed her time spent volunteering with these groups. In 1974, Margaret and George moved in to the village of Muenster. George passed away in 1989 and she remained living in Muenster, eventually moving from their home to Wolverine Heights and then finally in June 2011, she moved to St. Mary's Villa, her home until the present. Margaret's family was the most important part of her life and she was happiest when her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren would gather for family occasions and holidays. Margaret will be lovingly remembered by her eight children: George Jr. of Regina, Anita(Harvey) Schiltz of Humboldt, Adele(Ron) Brons of Saskatoon, Roger(Mary) and Ralph, both of Muenster, Marie(Tom) Kurjata of Saskatoon, Noreen(Wayne) Strueby of Humboldt and Lorna(Drew) Britz of Saskatoon; 25 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; two sisters Lidwina Vogelsang of Regina and Francis(Frank) Poelking of Humboldt; in-laws of the Hofmann and Bergerman families and by many nieces and nephews. Margaret was predeceased by her parents, William and Mary Bergerman; husband, George Hofmann; daughter, Frances Hofmann; seven brothers: Bill, Ted, Ray, Leo, Hugo, Albin and Leo; and seven sisters: Martha, Annie, Helen, Agatha, Ella, Leona, and Mary. The Prayer Service for Margaret was held on Thursday, December 26, 2013 at 7:30 p.m. at St. Peter's Roman Catholic Cathedral, Muenster, led by Garry Loehr. The Funeral Mass was held on Friday, December 27, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. from St. Peter's Cathedral, celebrated by Fr. Daniel Muyres, OSB. Interment followed in St. Peter's Parish Cemetery, Muenster. Memorial donations in Margaret's memory may be made to St. Peter's Parish Restoration Fund or St. Mary's Villa Foundation. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Malinoski & Danyluik Funeral Home, Humboldt.
