Louise MassingerMay 11, 1926 - January 27, 2011The death of Mrs. Louise (nee Klinker) Massinger of Evergreen Country Home, LeRoy, (and formerly of Humboldt), occurred at Humboldt District Hospital on Thursday, January 27th, 2011. She was 84 years of age. Louise was born on May 11, 1926, to Otto and Angela (nee Meyer) Klinker in Molbergen, Germany. She attended school until she was 14 when, due to the Second World War, she had to quit because her help was required with the family's sawmill business. Louise was 25 years old when she and her sister Olga immigrated to Canada to work for their aunt and uncle, Johanna and Ben Meckelborg. Louise was also employed as a hired girl for various families in the Humboldt and Muenster area. While working for the Frank family, she met Anton "Tony" Massinger and they were married in Assumption Church at Marysburg on August 4, 1953. Louise and Tony began their life together on their farm east of Marysburg. Six children were born to them, two sons and four daughters. As well as being a very busy wife and mother, Louise also worked away from home. Places of employment included the Marysburg School, where she was a custodian, Section 7 Farms and at one of Humboldt's Group Homes. In 1985, Louise and Tony retired and moved into Humboldt. Summer months were often spent fishing at various lakes throughout Saskatchewan and tending to their garden. During the winters, many fun-filled hours were spent playing cards with friends. Louise kept herself occupied by volunteering for Meals on Wheels and the Good Neighbour Store, sewing, quilting, knitting, crocheting, and going for coffee with her friends. She had always loved cooking and enjoyed making her family's favourite dishes, particularly potato dumplings and home-made noodles. Louise was also known for her good sense of humour. More than anything, she loved spending time with her children and their families, and keeping track of the various activities they were involved with. In November of 2010, due to failing health, Louise moved into Evergreen Country Home at LeRoy. Louise will be lovingly remembered by her six children, eight grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren: Ben Massinger of Edmonton, AB, and children, Tony and David; Sandy (Myron) Lueke of Humboldt and family, Shannon Lueke, and Tammy Engele Lueke (Ken Engele) and children Julianna and Owen; Carol (Gary) Lueke and family, Devin Lueke (Char Fosty), and Cindy (Rick) Bergermann and children Cody and Spencer; Patrick Massinger (Louise) of Humboldt; Ramona Massinger of Calgary, AB; and Betty (Chad) Wiesner of Muenster and family, Cole and Austin; brother, Ernest (Christa) Klinker of Toronto, ON; and by numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Anton "Tony" Massinger (July 7, 2005); parents, Otto and Angela (nee Meyer) Klinker; three brothers: Heinrich, Otto and Wilhelm; and by four sisters: Marianne, Ruth, Olga, and Christa. The Prayer Service for Louise was held at St. Augustine R.C. Church, Humboldt, on Monday, January 31, 2011, at 7:30 p.m., led by Walter Sarauer and Delores Hinz, organist. Scripture readers were Sandy Lueke and Betty Wiesner, and the eulogy was delivered by Ramona Massinger. The Funeral Mass was offered at St. Augustine R.C. Church on Tuesday, February 1, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. celebrated by Abbot Peter Novecosky OSB. Others taking part were: Devin Lueke, cross bearer; Pat Massinger, urn bearer; Shannon Lueke and Cindy Bergermann, scripture readers; Louise's daughters, intentions; Tammy Engele Lueke and Cole Wiesner, gift bearers; Marie Aubin, organist; St. Augustine Choir, music ministry. Honorary pallbearers were "all those who shared in Louise's life". Interment followed at Assumption R.C. Cemetery, Marysburg.
