HETLAND :

Mrs. Lillian Hetland (nee Larson), 94 years of Quill Plains Centennial Lodge, Watson and formerly of Spalding, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Wednesday, April 3, 2013. Lillian was born on January 16, 1919 in Homen, North Dakota to Ole and Severina (nee Rogstad) Larson. When she was six years old, her family moved to a farm east of Spalding. She attended Lake Edward School and following her education, worked as a house keeper for area families. On November 11, 1939, Lillian married Harold Hetland in Flin Flon, MB. They farmed in the Spalding area where Lillian took care of their home and family as well as working on the farm with Harold. She was a very gifted seamstress, sewing all of the family's clothing. Being a wonderful baker, she was well known for baking the best bread and lefsa around. Lillian's faith was of the utmost importance in her life; she was a committed Christian and had a strong dedication to God. She served God through her church and her work with the Mission Circle. She was also a member of the Willing Worker's Ladies Club, president of the Figure Skating Club and taught sewing in 4-H. Lillian loved to travel and was fortunate to see many parts of the world (New Zealand, Israel, Hawaii, Fiji, and California to name a few) as well as visiting her children and travelling in Canada. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren brought her much joy and although she didn't always see them often, asked about each of them regularly and was interested in their lives and what they were doing. Lillian will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her five children and 28 grandchildren: Layne's family - Cassandra Hetland of Spalding and family, Gary Hetland, Lasha (Dennis) Yeager and Michael (Cheryl) Hetland; INA (Richard) Kannenberg of Welland, ON and family, Sharon (Jeff) Holditch and Rick (Lori) Kannenberg; Mark's family - Mata Hetland of Cooke Islands and family, Dalon (Rayette) Hetland, Carmon (Fiona) Hetland, Heimata Poutoru, Reina Waaka and Pritika Hetland; SHARON Ilg of Spalding and family, Randy (Tanya) Ilg, Kevin (Susan) Ilg and Darryl Ilg; RAY (Jane) Hetland of Edmonton and family, Ray Jr. (Elizabeth) Hetland, Jason Hetland, Bjorn (Fitz) Hetland, Karissa Hetland, Autumn (Donnie) Sands, Jaron Hetland and Leif Hetland; RONALD (Patti) Hetland of Spalding and family, Rona (Ricardo) Riberio, Lindsay (Richard) Bosher and Drew (Kayla) Hetland; and CARMELLE (Ian) Grant of Stavely, AB and family, Jocelyn Grant, Darrick Grant, Kyran (Jessica) Grant, Gareth Grant and Joel Grant; step daughter-in-law, Ruth Hetland of Prince Albert and family; 33 great grandchildren; one sister, Violet (Leslie) Formo of Naicam; numerous step grandchildren, step great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Lillian was predeceased by her parents, Ole and Severina Larson, two sons, Layne Hetland and Mark Hetland; son-in-law, Albert Ilg; three step children, Joyce (Ralph) Snyder, Orville Hetland, and Wally (Jean) Hetland; five brothers and two sisters: Clarence (Dorothy) Larson, Conrad (Mildred) Larson, Sidney (Alma) Larson, Morris Larson, Melvin (Hilda) Larson, Selma (Oscar) Qualie, and Alvina (Vernon) Fellman.
