Lawrence Eichinger:

It is with great sadness that the family announce the passing of Mr. Lawrence Francis Eichinger 68 years of Humboldt on Thursday, January 31, 2013 at Humboldt District Hospital surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer. Lawrence was born in Bruno on May 19, 1944 to Joseph and Theresa (Boehm) Eichinger, the 4th child in a family of 12. Lawrence took his elementary education at Wilfred School and then, in the early 60's, he finished three years of high school at St. Peter's College in Muenster. In 1968, when his parents retired to Bruno, Lawrence took over the family farm. He later worked as the desk clerk at the Arlington Hotel, then at the new Pioneer Hotel. After a two-year absence from Saskatchewan, he returned to work in Humboldt, this time for Canadian Propane Ltd. until it closed. After that he worked for S. Ilg Construction, building houses for 11 years. Lawrence met a girl named Agnes Grimard, from Prud'homme, who was the love of his life. Lawrence and Agnes were married on June 30, 1979, in Prud'homme. The newlyweds settled on Lawrence's farm. He had been raising purebred Black Angus cattle for 11 years. In 1982, after three years on the farm, they decided to build a new house in Humboldt and move there. A short time later they sold their farm. Lawrence and Agnes were blessed with three children Lori Anne, Christina and Timothy. In 1986, Lawrence started a job at Midland Glass Ltd., a job that he held for nearly 16 years. Due to company cutbacks, this job came to an end. Lawrence and Agnes loved dancing and attending Polka Fests in the area. In more recent times, Lawrence has returned to his country roots, working on some farms in the Lake Lenore area. He really found it difficult to leave his farm back in the 1980's. So he thoroughly enjoyed his time back in the country. He would say, "Life can be good when you can spend your days out in the open air among the grain fields, prairie meadows and the wetlands of central Saskatchewan." When Lawrence was semiretired, his hobbies were willow weaving and hooking rugs. He loved to read, especially history books, and had a passion for history. Later Lawrence began to work for the Star Phoenix delivering papers. No matter what the weather conditions were as long as the papers got to Humboldt, your paper would be at your door at a regular time in the early hours of the morning. He was a very committed and responsible person. Lawrence's heart was broken on September 25, 2011 when Agnes passed away. Lawrence found his life alone very lonely and continued to keep busy with his paper route. He also enjoyed visiting with his neighbors. Lawrence will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his three children and one grandson (born Jan 27, 2013): Lori Anne (Mark) Dunne and son Toby, of Moose Jaw; Christina Eichinger and Timothy Eichinger both of Saskatoon; eight sisters: Theresa Hessdorfer of St. Benedict, Mary Weiman of Saskatoon, Elizabeth (Chris) Molnar of Melfort, Lucy Hagen of Kelowna, BC, Rosanne (Eugene) Schemenauer of Lake Lenore, Josie Eichinger of Lake Lenore, Lena (Dave) Pawlyshyn of Castlegar, BC and Katherine Harriman of Saskatoon; two brothers: Henry (Beverly) Eichinger of Cochrane, AB and Chris (Ramona) Eichinger of Dalmeny; numerous nieces and nephews and by members of the Grimard family. Lawrence was predeceased by his wife Agnes Eichinger (2011); parents Joseph and Theresa Eichinger; brother Tony Eichinger (2012), brother-in-law Everard Hessdorfer (2005) and nephew-in-law Paul Besset (2007). A prayer service was held on Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at 7:30 p.m. and a Funeral Mass was held on Thursday, February 7, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. Both services were held at St. Augustine R.C. Church in Humboldt. Memorial donations in Lawrence's memory may be directed to Humboldt District Hospital Foundation "Spiritual Care". Funeral Arrangements were entrusted to MALINOSKI & DANYLUIK FUNERAL HOME Humboldt, SK.
