Lawrence John Dunne, Sr.
May 15, 1925 - October 22, 2012
The death of Mr. Lawrence John Dunne, Sr. of St. Mary's Villa, Humboldt, SK, occurred at his residence on Monday, October 22, 2012. He was 87 years of age. Lawrence was born on May 15, 1925, to Charles and Mary (nee Koberinski) Dunne Sr. at home on their farm near Sinnett, SK. He grew up there and attended Loyola School in the district. Following his education, Lawrence worked on the family farm with his father. During the winters, he was employed at various lumber camps in Ontario. In 1946, Lawrence started a mixed-farm operation on his own. On November 18, 1948, he married Martha Thole in St. Patrick's R.C. Church in the Sinnett/LeRoy district. Nine children, eight sons and one daughter, were born to them; however, one son died in infancy. Although Lawrence and Martha farmed until 1984 when they retired and moved into Humboldt, he continued to go out to the farm to help his son Jerome. Not one to be idle, after moving to Humboldt he also worked at CIM. In his leisure time, Lawrence pursued a variety of hobbies and interests. Throughout his life, Lawrence was an avid sports fan and took part in many sporting events with family and friends. In later years, he and sons played innumerable ball games. Other favorite pastimes included woodworking, fishing, camping, hunting, trapping, walking, bottle picking with his grandsons, and traveling, making trips to points in British Columbia, Alberta, various northern lakes, Alaska, and Disneyworld in Florida. His greatest source of joy was spending time with his family, of whom he was very proud. Another very important part of his life was his faith, and he was honored to be a lay minister and a member of the Knights of Columbus. Lawrence will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife of 64 years, Martha (nee Thole) Dunne of Humboldt; seven sons and one daughter: Ken Dunne of Humboldt; Darlene (William) Crowter of Saskatoon; Pat (Darlene) Dunne of Humboldt; Glen (Marilyn) Dunne of Langham; Jerome (Susan) Dunne of Humboldt; Warren (Judy) Dunne of Watrous; Tim (Sharon) Dunne of Lanigan; and Lawrence (Sandi) Dunne, Jr. of Humboldt; 18 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; three brothers: Jim (Fe) Dunne, Wilfred (Laura) Dunne, and Allan (Velma) Dunne; two sisters: Anne Thiell and Cecelia Bendel; brothers-in-law: Henry (Evelyn) Thole and Joe (Sandra) Thole; sisters-in-law: Elizabeth Harpauer, Clara Lemmerich, Josephine Crone, Mary Dunne, Mildred Dunne, and Mary Anne Dunne; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
