SEIER: Kenneth John
August 15, 1957 - February 16, 2014
We, the family of Kenneth John Seier of Humboldt, SK, are sad to announce his passing on February 16, 2014, at St Paul's Hospital in Saskatoon. He was 56 years of age. Ken was born to John and Marie (nee Koenig) Seier on August 15, 1957, in the LeRoy Hospital and grew up on the family farm near Englefeld. He attended school in Englefeld and Watson. Even as a teenager, Ken knew he wanted to be a farmer. After graduating from high school, he continued to farm on the family farm. In the winters, Ken worked on the rigs on Ellesmere Island and northern Alberta to afford to buy land and machinery. With his father's help, Ken developed the small family farm into a thriving grain operation. Always the perfectionist, not a blade of grass was ever out of place in his farm yard. In the mid-2000s, Ken found the demands of a large grain farm more than he could manage on his own. He sold the farm near Englefeld and bought a house in Warman. However, Ken was not one for city life, so it wasn't long before he bought an old farm near Watson, SK, and built it into a small sheep farm, doing custom baling on the side. By this time Marion Scott was in his life, making his days richer and bringing out the fun-loving side of Ken. Ken loved being on the land, whether in the fields on his tractor, on his boyhood traplines, or enjoying his hobbies of fishing, hunting and sledding. In February 2011, he was diagnosed with ALS. Within two years Ken's health had declined to the point that he had to sell his farm and auction his equipment in October 2013. Ken will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife, Marion Scott of Humboldt; father, John (Marlene) Seier of Humboldt; sister, Elaine (Guy) Seier of Whitehorse, YT; uncles and aunts: Gary (Mary) Seier, Jeannine Koenig, Ben (Agnes) Gartner, Edward (Maxine) McCarthy, Jeannette Seier, and Lucille Koenig; and by numerous cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his mother, Marie (nee Koenig) Seier; uncles: Henry Seier, Tony Koenig and Richard Koenig; and by his aunt, Louise McCarthy. The Funeral Service was held at Holy Guardian Angels R.C. Church, Englefeld, on Friday, February 21, 2014, at 2:00 p.m., celebrated by Fr. Darryl Millette. Others taking part were: Murray Koenig, crossbearer; Laurie Breker and Carrie Koenig, scripture readers; Fr. Darryl Millette, intentions; Danny Breker, eulogist; Donald Koenig, urnbearer.
