LUMMERDING: Kenneth Frank Anthony

March 26, 1933 - July 9, 2013

It is with sadness that the family of Mr. Kenneth Lummerding announces his passing on Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at Humboldt District Hospital, Humboldt, SK. He was 80 years of age. Ken was born on March 26, 1933 to Joseph and Agnes (nee Scharf) Lummerding in Bruno, SK. He was raised and attended school in Bruno. When he was 21 years old he had the privilege of carrying his new baby brother Daniel home from the hospital. When he was done school he worked at the clay pits in Bruno. From there he went to British Columbia where he worked in the logging camps, then tobacco fields in Ontario, water and sewer in Manitoba, and finally, to Humboldt where he spent the rest of his working years as a bartender, with the last 22 years in the Legion. When he returned to Humboldt he met Laurine Strome on a blind date. On July 27, 1962 Ken married the love of his life, Laurine. They spent their married years in Humboldt and raised five children: Janice, Kevin, Gail, Donna and Tammy, which in the almost 51 years of marriage resulted in an additional 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Ken had a very big heart and a great sense of humor, never getting too worked up about anything. He loved spending time with his family and when the kids were younger most Sundays he packed them all up for a drive to Bruno to visit Grandma and Grandpa, and of course to do the garden. Ken loved driving around the back roads watching for wildlife and taking the country hills to give the kids a "little thrill"! In his early years he enjoyed duck hunting with Danny, fishing, bingo and family get-togethers. Once his grandkids starting playing hockey, he enjoyed watching them and was a faithful Bronco fan. He spent a lot of time playing cards at the Seniors Centre, where he enjoyed the company and liked to boast when he came home 25 cents richer! Ken and Laurine spent many hours in their yard feeding and watching the birds. But his greatest joy was the time he spent with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ken will be lovingly remembered by his loving wife, Laurine (nee Strome) Lummerding, five children, 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren: Janice (Ron) Morrison of Kelvington, SK, and family, Robert and children Kayla and Dylan, Renee and children Stefan and Alyssa, Janie (James) and daughter Ainsley, and Pam and daughter Jenny; Kevin (Chris) Lummerding of Humboldt and family, Anna and children Kira, Arianna and Alyza, and Devon; Gail (George) Ewen of Humboldt and family, Jillian (Keenan), Jenny (Nick), and Josh; Donna (Stephen) Lummerding of Humboldt; Tammy Lummerding of Humboldt and family, Chad (Hayley), Colin and Cassidy; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Ken was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Agnes (nee Scharf) Lummerding, brother Daniel Lummerding, and great-granddaughter Trinity Lummerding. The Funeral Service for Kenneth was held at Westminster United Church, Humboldt, on Monday, July 15, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. officiated by Sheila Lavender. Others taking part were Joan Jackson, organist; Jillian Suer and Chris Lummerding, scripture readers; Jenny Ewen, eulogist; Tracy Ludwig and Cassidy Lummerding, memorial table attendants; Robert Morrison, Chad Lummerding, Colin Lummerding and Josh Ewen, urnbearers.
