Juliana "Julia" Schriml:

October 18, 1919 - March 13, 2013

The death of Mrs. Juliana "Julia" (nee Paydli) Schriml of Bethany Pioneer Village, Middle Lake, SK, (and formerly of Bruno, SK), occurred at Humboldt District Hospital, Humboldt, SK, on Wednesday, March 13, 2013. She was 93 years of age, and the last surviving member of her generation. Julia was born on October 18, 1919, to John and Julia (nee Yanocki) Paydli on the homestead in the Willmont district. She grew up there and attended Willmont Rural School. On January 27, 1942, Julia married Andrew "Jacob" Schriml in St. John's R.C. Church at Willmont. After the war was over, Julia and Jacob took up farming on the Paydli homestead. Four children, two daughters and two sons, were born to them. As well as tending to her domestic chores and the needs of her family, Julia helped in the field, milked cows, raised innumerable chickens, laying hens and turkeys, and planted and harvested a large garden every year. She took the utmost pride in everything she did. Julia and Jacob worked hard, but also took time to visit, have coffee with their neighbours, and entertain in their own home. In 1984, Julia and Jacob had their farm house moved into Bruno and renovated it. Jacob passed away on July 14, 1997. Julia continued to live in their home and remained quite active. She enjoyed gardening, baking, crocheting, embroidering, making baby quilts and afghans for her grandchildren, doing word puzzles, playing cards, visiting, and helping at the Bruno Friendship Centre. More than anything, Julia loved spending time with her family members, and the more the better. Julia will be lovingly remembered by her four children, 10 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren: Joyce (Wilfrid) Freriks of Pilger, SK, and family, Wendy (Terry) Hudema of Edmonton, AB, and children Justin (Angeline Kraushaar) and daughter Kianna, Chelsea, Nathan and Dylan; Randal (Karen) Freriks of Pilger and children Haley and Andrew; and Leanne (Nathan) Dierker of Humboldt and children Jordan and Casandra; Donna (George) Meyer of Camrose, AB, and family, Laura McKay of Camrose and children Skye, Kashtin and Julien; and Jeffrey (Krista) Meyer of Camrose and son Dalton; Brian (Cathy) Schriml of Kamloops, BC, and family, Melissa (Darryl) Damini of Kamloops and children Seth and Samuel; and Chad (Lisa) Schriml of Kamloops and children Kiel and Luke; and Myles Schriml of Calgary, AB, and family Jonathan (Jennifer) Schriml of Edmonton and children Page and Keycha; Matthew (Kayla) Schriml of Edmonton and son Torek, and Crystal (Tighe) French of Calgary and son Blake; and by numerous nieces, nephews, and their families. She was predeceased by her husband, Andrew "Jacob" Schriml (1997); son-in-law, Wilfrid Freriks (1999); parents, John and Julia (nee Yanocki) Paydli; and all her siblings. The Prayer Service for Julia was held at St. Bruno R.C. Church, Bruno, on Sunday, March 17, 2013, at 7:30 p.m., led by Fr. Joseph Ackerman, OSB. Scripture readers were Crystal French and Terry Hudema, and the organist was Annie Moritz. The Funeral Mass was offered at St. Bruno R.C. Church on Monday, March 18, 2013, at 10:30 a.m., celebrated by Fr. Joseph Ackerman, OSB. Others taking part were: Stephan Anderson, crossbearer; Cathy Schriml and Annavon Seidel, scripture readers; Myles Schriml, intentions; Joyce Freriks and Brian Schriml, giftbearers; Marg Helgert and Joan Rieger, memorial table attendants. An honor guard was formed by members of the C.W.L. Honorary pallbearers were "all those who shared in Julia's life". Active pallbearers were Julia's grandchildren. Interment followed at St. Bruno R.C. Cemetery. Memorial donations may be directed to the Bruno Friendship Centre. Schuler-Lefebvre Funeral Chapel, Humboldt, SK.
