KNOBLAUCH: Joseph "Joe" Henry

May 25, 1932 - January 27, 2014

It is with profound sorrow that the family of Mr. Joseph "Joe" Henry Knoblauch of St. Mary's Villa, Humboldt, SK, (and formerly of Burr, SK), announces his sudden and unexpected death at Humboldt District Hospital on Monday, January 27, 2014. He was 81 years of age. Joe was born on May 25, 1932, to August and Elizabeth (nee Graf) Knoblauch at home on their farm in the Meacham/Viscount area. He attended Lucasville School and was a member of the Saxby Parish Church. On August 23, 1955, Joe married Helen Takatch at St. Scholastica R.C. Church near Burr. Their union was blessed with four children, one daughter and three sons. Immediately after their marriage, Joe and Helen lived in the Viscount area. In 1967, they bought a farm two-and-a-half miles east of Burr in the Banner School District. Together, Joe and Helen ran the farming operation until 2000, when they retired into Humboldt. In June 2011, due to failing health, Joe became a resident of St. Mary's Villa. Over the years, Joe pursued a variety of hobbies and interests. He enjoyed curling, hunting, gardening, tending to his yard, and tinkering with his John Deere equipment. Not one to travel, Joe was most comfortable staying close to home. He loved socializing and visiting, especially over a good game of smear or kaiser. He was also known for his great sense of humor and how he loved to tease and play tricks. Joe will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife of 58 years, Helen (nee Takatch) Knoblauch of Humboldt, SK; two sons, three grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren: Brian Knoblauch(Charlene Toop) of Burr, SK, and family, Victoria(Shaun Dyck), and Kataryna Pawliw, all of Saskatoon, SK; and Allan Knoblauch(Bernice) of Endeavor, SK, and family, Derrick(Kerry) and their children Cole and Dillon of Preeceville, SK; three brothers and one sister: Edwin Knoblauch, Alphonse Knoblauch and Leo Knoblauch, all of Humboldt, and Irene(Joseph) Holz of Osoyoos, BC; brothers-in-law: Ray Biwer of Muenster, SK, and Lorne Suchan of Regina, SK; two uncles: Andy Graf of Sudbury, ON, and Doug Leigh of Humboldt, SK; and by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by two children: Audrey Krawce (1986), and Rodney Knoblauch (1986); his father, August Knoblauch (1991); mother, Elizabeth (nee Graf) Knoblauch (1994); brother, Ben Knoblauch (2013); two sisters: Ella Suchan (1998), and Veronica Biwer (1986); aunts: Ruth Graf and Clara Leigh; sister-in-law, Doreen Knoblauch (2011); and by many other relatives of the Knoblauch and Graf families. The Funeral Mass was offered at St. Augustine R.C. Church, Humboldt, on Friday, January 31, 2014, at 10:00 a.m., celebrated by Fr. Gregory Roth. Others taking part were: Ruth Hiebert, crossbearer; Edwin Knoblauch and Irene Holz, urnbearers; Theresa Novecosky and Shirley Tobin, scripture readers; Theresa Novecosky, intentions; Caroline Biwer and Johanna Merkosky, giftbearers; Dennis and Terry Wiesner, memorial table attendants. Music ministry was provided by the St. Augustine Parish Funeral Choir. Honorary pallbearers were "all those who shared in Joe's life". Interment followed at St. Augustine R.C. Cemetery. Memorial donations may be directed to the St. Mary's Villa Foundation. Schuler-Lefebvre Funeral Chapel, Humboldt, SK.
