STADNYK: The death of Mr. John Fred Stadnyk of St. Mary's Villa, Humboldt, SK, occurred at his residence on Tuesday, August 16, 2011. He was 85 years of age. John was born on August 28, 1925, to Fred and Alice (nee Thoms) Stadnyk at home on their farm in the Carmel district. He grew up there and attended Carmel School. In 1952, John began his lifelong career of farming in the Carmel and Burr areas. He married Victoria Hyshka on July 12, 1952, at Prud'homme in Borshiw Church which was built by Victoria's father. Their union was blessed with seven children, four sons and three daughters. The Stadnyk family lived in Bruno and farmed from town. In addition, John was employed by the C.N.R. In 1968, he and his family moved into Humboldt, where he was a school bus driver and worked for Krueger Implements. John retired from farming at the age of 66. Throughout his life, he was a hard worker and possessed good work ethics. John was also mechanically inclined and could always be counted on to help his family and friends with any repairs they needed. A man of strong faith, John was a very devoted member of All Saints Ukrainian Church. For many years, he was an altar server, and caretaker of the church and cemetery. A very sociable man, John enjoyed visiting around town, often traveling on his bicycle and, later, his scooter. As well, guests to the Stadnyk home were always welcome to visit and enjoy some refreshments. Due to failing health, a year ago John became a resident of St. Mary's Villa, his home until the present.
