ARMSTRONG, Jennie (nee Maloney), 100 years, of Quill Plains Centennial Lodge, Watson and formerly of Humboldt, passed away on Tuesday, December 18, 2012. Jennie was born on October 10, 1912 at home on the family farm near Gilbert Plains, MB to William and Dora (nee Yarema) Maloney. When Jennie was a child, the family moved to Meadow Lake, SK where she completed her schooling. Being the oldest child, she was kept very busy helping with the chores on the family farm and she also worked at the local Post Office. Jennie married Bryan Armstrong on April 10, 1931 and they lived on a farm near Meadow Lake where Jennie was took care of the household duties as well as raising four young children. In 1959, the family moved to Humboldt. Jennie was an accomplished seamstress, sewing many graduation and wedding gowns, bridesmaid and figure skating dresses, as well as many outfits for herself and her family. She also did mending and alterations. Jennie loved to quilt and having made over a hundred in her lifetime, each family member has several to treasure. She enjoyed playing bridge and when it was her turn to host the group, she always served the tea on her lovely Royal Albert China. Jennie liked to play the piano and to sing, especially at Christmas time, when everyone would gather around to sing their favourite carols. She always had a bountiful vegetable garden, spending much of the fall time canning her produce. She also made homemade bread up until she was 96 years old. Jennie was a member of the Legion Ladies Auxiliary, the Rebecca's and the UCW. She was a people person, enjoying a visit with anyone and everyone; however she was quick to share her opinions on various subjects especially politics, loving when a good argument ensued. In 2009, Jennie became a resident of Quill Plains Centennial Lodge in Watson, a place she enjoyed living and which was her home until the present.
