HELMINK: James Henry
November 1, 1925 - September 19, 2014
James Henry Helmink of St. Mary's Villa, Humboldt, SK, (and formerly of Bruno, SK), passed away at his residence on Sunday, September 19, 2014, at the age of 88. James was born on November 1, 1925, to Urban and Mary (nee Foos) Helmink at home on their farm six-and-a-half miles northwest of Bruno. He grew up there and attended Hoffman Country School, then ran a mixed-farm operation. Eventually, James moved into Bruno. A warm and congenial man with a good sense of humor, he loved socializing with "the boys", complete with lots of teasing and joke-telling. James also loved gardening, coin collecting, and attending auction sales. He was known for his "sweet tooth" and fondness for candy. His friends and family meant the world to him. James will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by one sister, Marrion Honish of Bruno; three nieces, three great-nieces, and one great-nephew: Annette (Orest) Byblow of Selkirk, MB, and daughters Jessica and Nicole; Ramona (Chris) Eichinger of Dalmeny, SK, and children Andrew and Melissa; and Rosella (Harold) Hembroff of Saskatoon, SK; and by numerous cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, Urban and Mary (nee Foos) Helmink; two brothers: Donald Helmink (in infancy), and Aloys Helmink; one sister, Henriette Fedorchuk; two brothers-in-law: Ray Honish and Bill Fedorchuk; and by one niece, Audrey Schneider (in infancy). The Funeral Mass was held at St. Bruno R.C. Church, Bruno, on Saturday, October 11, 2014, at 11:00 a.m., celebrated by Fr. Joseph Ackerman, OSB. Others taking part were: Alyssa Huber, crossbearer; Magdalen Dagenais and Annette Byblow, scripture readers; Rosella Hembroff, Ramona Eichinger and Annette Byblow, urnbearers. Honorary pallbearers were "all those who shared in James' life". Interment followed at St. Bruno R.C. Cemetery. Memorial donations may be directed to the St. Bruno Parish Fund.
