BOWMAN: Hilda Louise
August 7, 1926 – April 28, 2015
Mrs. Hilda Louise (nee Wulff) Bowman of Quill Plains Centennial Lodge, Watson, SK, (and formerly of Humboldt, SK), passed away at her residence on Tuesday, April 28, 2015. She was 88 years of age. Hilda, the oldest in a family of five children, was born on August 7, 1926, to Paul and Barbara (nee Raunest) Wulff at home on their farm near Raymore, SK. She attended Raymore School and, after completing Grade 12, enrolled in Normal School to attain her teaching certificate. After teaching for several years, Hilda secured a position at Golden Acre School in the Carmel district. It was there that she met Victor “Vic” Bowman, a handsome young farmer in that area. Hilda and Vic were married on October 16, 1947. Their union was blessed with three children, two daughters and a son. Hilda was always very involved in farm life. She and Vic spent many long hours working side-by-side tending to their mixed farm operation. Hilda greatly enjoyed socializing with the neighbours at local dances and card parties. Life on the farm was filled with many blessings and plenty of good times. In the late 1960s, Hilda began working at the Eaton’s order office in Humboldt where she made many lifelong friends. In 1979, she and Vic purchased a home in Humboldt and retired. Hilda joined the staff at St. Mary’s Villa, where she truly enjoyed the work and the residents that she served. In 2007, she and Vic moved to a condo in Kinsmen Court in Humboldt. Again, they made many lasting friendships. Visitors were always welcome in any of Vic and Hilda’s homes and never left without a noisy game of cards and partaking in some of Hilda’s delicious home cooking. Hilda was an excellent seamstress, a 4-H leader, and an active member of her church. She also enjoyed bowling, Kanasta, and watching her beloved Blue Jays. Of course, gardening continued to top her list of hobbies and her beautiful yard was always a source of pride for her. Vic passed away on October 19, 2009. Hilda continued to reside at Kinsmen Court but, after several years of failing health, relocated to Quill Plains Centennial Lodge in Watson. Her caregivers there were compassionate and truly treated the residents with dignity and love. The sense of family that Hilda felt there was a source of great comfort to her family. She had a keen interest in current events and politics. Hilda was never afraid to stand up for her convictions and she welcomed a hearty debate. “We, her family are very grateful to share this time of remembrance with you. Mom, we will miss your strength and courage, and you will be forever loved.” Hilda will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by two daughters, one son, seven grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren: Shirley (Skip) Duford of Naicam, SK, and family, Penny Yaworski (Greg Park) of Kelowna, BC, and her children, Jade, Jazlyn, Chanel and Kendra, Kim (Len) Schweighardt of Saskatoon and their children, Victoria, Heather, Devin and Jake, and Kelly (John) Soderholm and their daughter Alexis; Glenda (Leon) Jacobs of Hodgeville, SK, and family, Erin (Jeremy) Hiebert of Saskatoon, SK, and their son Jason, and Reagan Jacobs of Candle Lake, SK; and Darryl (Joy) Bowman of Regina, SK, and their family, Alyssa Daku of Saskatoon, SK, and Saryna Daku of Caronport, SK; two brothers: Ernie Wullf and Henry Wullf, both of Raymore; and by numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Victor Allan Bowman; parents, Paul and Barbara Wulff; two brothers, Christian Wulff, and Paul Wulff (in infancy); sister, Erna (Elmer) Thoner. She is also predeceased by in-laws: Abe and Christina Bowman; Hilda and Bert Earis, Norma and Gus Jautz, Florence and Ernie Stillborn, Roy and May Bowman, and Joyce Wulff. The Funeral Service was held at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Humboldt, on Friday, May 1, 2015, at 2:00 p.m., officiated by Pastor Robert Grout. Music ministry was provided by organist Elaine Siegel.
