The death of Mr. Herman King of Bethany Pioneer Village, Middle Lake, SK, occurred at Royal University Hospital, Saskatoon, SK, on Tuesday, January 24, 2012. He was 90 years of age. Herman was born on March 5, 1921, to Laslo and Mary (nee Placsko) King at home on their farm in the Middle Lake district. He was raised on the family farm a quarter-of-a-mile west of Lucien Lake and attained his formal education at MacIntosh and Grove Lake country schools. Baseball games were the usual entertainment in the summer months and, as a young man, Herman was an avid participant. After leaving school, Herman worked on the family farm and, during the winter months, in lumber camps at Bannock, SK. In 1944, he married Josephine Doherty. They began their life together on the King homestead, where Herman was born and raised. Two children, a son and a daughter, were born to them; however, their son died in infancy. As well as farming, Herman worked at Ben Meyers Lumber Co. in Middle Lake. In his leisure time, he enjoyed bowling, farming, watching sports, especially baseball. Herman will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 67 years, Josephine (nee Doherty) King of Bethany Pioneer Village, Middle Lake; daughter, Genevieve (Harold) Stauber of Stony Plain, AB; two grandsons: Jason (Dana) Stauber of Stony Plain, AB. and family, Mackenzie (Mike) Coribell and son Trey; and Bradley (Theresa) Stauber of Okanagan Falls, B.C. and family, son Kiefer and daughter Myia; sister, Agnes Goller of Middle Lake; sister-in-law, Lizzie King of Middle Lake; and by numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Sylvester King (in infancy); parents, Laslo and Mary (nee Placsko) King; brother, Frank King; and by brother-in-law, Henry Goller. The Funeral Service was held at Birch Manor, Bethany Pioneer Village of Middle Lake, on Saturday, January 28, 2012, at 2:00 p.m., officiated by Pastor Ryan Schnee, music ministry, Jenneke Schnee and organist, Dori Cooke. Interment will take place at a later date. Memorial donations may be directed to Bethany Pioneer Village. Schuler-Lefebvre Funeral Chapel, Humboldt, SK.
