We are saddened to announce the passing of our dear mother and grandmother, Helen (nee Kun) Blaseg of St. Michael鈥檚 Haven, Cudworth, SK.Her death occurred at Rosthern Union Hospital, Rosthern, SK, on Saturday, November 22, 2014, with her family by her side.She was 93 years of age and the last surviving member of her generation.Helen was born on December 28, 1920, to Istvan and Ilona (nee Kaponyas) Kun at home on the family farm in the Bremen district.She grew up there and attended Ironside School, approximately four miles from the farm, which was approximately a four mile walk each way for her.Helen worked hard on her parents鈥� farm until she married August Steve Blaseg on November 24, 1942, in Saskatoon.They lived on the Blaseg homestead near Bremen.Three daughters were born to them.Life was quite busy for Helen, as she tended to her domestic chores and helped August on the farm, milking cows, raising chickens, ducks, turkeys and geese, selling cream, eggs and poultry to a wide-surrounding area, and making sure the threshing crews were well fed and taken care of.As well, she planted and harvested two huge gardens.Making quilts from goose and duck down was her pride and joy.Eventually, Helen and August moved to Cudworth and farmed from town for a few more years.As well as continuing to help August on the farm, Helen was employed at the Cudworth Nursing Home as a nurses鈥� aide, cook and dietary aide. After working there for 10 years, she retired to provide full-time care for August, whose health was failing.In the winter months in Cudworth Helen also did some curling on and off.The door was always open to anyone to share a laugh and a cup of coffee, pop and her homemade baking.She was renowned for her exceptional meals and generous hospitality.Never one to be idle, Helen loved the farm and the animals there, as well as the animals that were in her life after living at the Haven.She always had a concern for how the animals at Gerald and Cindy鈥檚 farm were doing:鈥淕erald, did you get a bull yet for those heifers, because otherwise it will be too late鈥�.Helen鈥檚 happiest times were those spent when the whole family was together; she drew strength from enjoying those moments.Her greatest passion in life was her family, her grandchildren and their achievements.Her grandchildren were her pride and joy; she was a special grandmother to each one.Helen loved driving her 1972 Ford XLT truck, Dodge van, Ski-Doo and 3-Wheeler.The things she enjoyed doing until late in the evening were crocheting, knitting, embroidery, sewing clothes, and making quilts for her family.Her qualities of hard work and conscientiousness were exemplary.The things that made her so special and so endearing were her personality, sense of humour, kind-heartedness and her laugh.She will leave a void in the lives of all who knew her.Being a very independent woman, Helen moved to Saskatoon in 1996 and lived in an apartment across from Market Mall.She loved her new home and resided there until 2010.At that time, since her mobility was getting a little more difficult for her, Helen moved to St. Michael鈥檚 Haven in Cudworth.She enjoyed living at the Haven, playing bingo weekly, joining in with other activities, and visiting with old farm friends.Her last days with her family were so very special.Even though she couldn鈥檛 speak, she smiled with her family, and derived much pleasure from the stories and laughter that were shared.Mom/Grandma will be ever missed, preciously remembered for her unwavering love to all, her compassion, her encouragement and sound advice to her family.鈥淲e were so blessed, we had the best.Life鈥檚 work is worth giving.The only thing her heart was filled with was love for her family.God has you in his arms, we are without you here.We miss your smile, your touch and laughter.We will forever be a little less complete because we don鈥檛 have you here with us.We feel your love walking with us every day.听 鈥楾ill we can hold you again Mom/Grandma, we will miss you so much.Love you forever.鈥� Helen will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by her three children: Janice Blaseg Rousseau (Marcel) of Saskatoon; Edith Hared (Raphael) of Coral Springs, Florida; and Cindy Altrogge (Gerald) of St. Benedict;three grandchildren:Kody Rousseau,Kaley Rousseau, and Dakota Olson, and their special friends; and by nieces, nephews and their families.She was predeceased by her husband, August Blaseg; four brothers:Andrew Kun, Steve Kun Sr., and two brothers in infancy; two sisters, both in infancy; three sisters-in-law: Helen Kun, Angelina Kun, and Agatha Borstmayer; and other family members of the Blaseg and Kun families.The Funeral Mass was offered at St. Michael鈥檚 R.C. Church, Cudworth, on Thursday, November 27, 2014, at 11:00 a.m., celebrated by Fr. Eugene Nwachukwu.Giftbearers were Marina and Wayne Hackl, and the eulogy was delivered by Steve Kun.Music ministry was provided by the Mom & Dads Choir and a special selection by Arthur Kun.Active pallbearers were Kody Rousseau, Dakota Olson, Steve Kun, Trian Kun, Marvin Kun, and David Borstmayer.Honorary pallbearers were 鈥渁ll those who shared in Helen鈥檚 life.鈥澨� Interment followed at St. Michael鈥檚 R.C. Cemetery.Memorial donations may be directed to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.Schuler-Lefebvre Funeral Chapel, Humboldt, SK.
