EGGERMAN: Hattie Mary

November 20, 1921 - April 4, 2014

The death of Mrs. Hattie Mary (nee Schmeiser) Eggerman of Bethany Pioneer Village, Middle Lake, SK, (and formerly of Humboldt, SK), occurred at Humboldt District Hospital on Friday, April 4, 2014. Hattie was born on November 20, 1921, to Rudolph and Mary (nee Flory) Schmeiser at St. Elizabeth's Hospital, Humboldt. She grew up on the family farm in the Fulda district and attended Keller School, a few miles west of her home. Following her education, Hattie helped with the work on the farm. On January 5, 1942, she married Raymond "Ray" Eggerman. They were the first couple to be married in St. Joseph's R.C. Church at Fulda. Their marriage was blessed with a daughter, Shirley. From 1942 to 1949, Hattie and Ray farmed at Fulda. They relocated east of Marysburg and farmed there until moving to a farm between Englefeld and Watson. Upon retiring, they lived in Humboldt for a number of years where Hattie worked for a time in a fabric store. She and Ray then moved to Chilliwack, BC, where Shirley and her husband Steve were teaching. A few years later, they returned to Humboldt where they decided to reside permanently. Throughout her married life, Hattie loved her role as a homemaker, was a meticulous housekeeper, and enjoyed gardening, sewing, and crocheting. In later years, she enjoyed spending leisure time playing cards. On December 23, 2009, Ray passed away. In 2011, Hattie became a resident of Bethany Pioneer Village. Hattie is survived by her two sisters: Helen Musty of Humboldt, and Alma (Clinton) White of Regina; three sisters-in-law: Esther Schmeiser of Middle Lake, Johanna Eggerman of Watson, and Margaret Eggerman of Saskatoon; son-in-law, Steve Thoms of Humboldt; and by numerous nieces, nephews, and their families. She was predeceased by her husband, Raymond Eggerman (2009); daughter, Shirley Thoms (2010); parents, Rudolph and Mary (nee Flory) Schmeiser; brother, Raymond Schmeiser; and in-laws of the Eggerman family: Henry Anthony "Tony" Musty, John (Martha) Eggerman, Henry Eggerman, Albert (Cecelia) Eggerman, Arnold Eggerman, and Lawrence Eggerman. The Funeral Mass was offered at St. Augustine R.C. Church, Humboldt, on Friday, April 11, 2014, at 11:00 a.m., concelebrated by Fr. Ephraim Mensah and Fr. Daniel Muyres, OSB. Others taking part were: Joe Schmeiser, crossbearer; Bill Bergermann and Benji Schlosser, altar servers; Helen Musty, Alma White and Louise Musty-Shipman, urnbearers; Judy Eggerman and Peter Stroh, scripture readers; Joyce Schmeiser, intentions; Louise Musty-Shipman, Marion Bassett and Betty Hauser, giftbearers; Gen Doetzel, communion minister; Laura Fraess, Joan Jaeb and Dolores Jaeb, memorial table attendants. Music ministry was provided by director Loretta Schugmann, organist Dolores Hinz, the St. Augustine Parish Funeral Choir, and the Marysburg Choir. Honorary pallbearers were "all Hattie's nieces and nephews, and all others who shared in her life". During the memorial luncheon, the eulogy was delivered by Linda Stroh and Ingrid Eggerman. Interment followed at St. Augustine R.C. Cemetery. Memorial donations may be directed to either Bethany Pioneer Village or the St. Augustine Parish Building Fund.
