The death of Mrs. Greta Gertrude (nee Harder) Barnes of Saskatoon, SK, (and formerly of Humboldt, SK), occurred at her residence on Sunday, October 14, 2012. She was 89 years of age. Greta was the eldest child of Nathan and Caroline (nee Scheiber) Harder and grew up on their homestead farm in the Irish Colony, south of St. Gertrude, Saskatchewan, and attended the Caseyville School there. When she was finished school, she moved to Humboldt and worked at Richman's Department Store. Several years later, she moved to Vancouver and worked for Pacific Veneer. In the early 1950's, she returned to Humboldt, and fell in love with Wilfred "Barney" Barnes. Greta and Barney were married in Saskatoon on June 30th, 1954. Together they ran Barney's Grocery Store until his passing in 1971. Greta continued working in Humboldt at various jobs, including Eatons, Ross' Jewellers, and Farmer John's until she retired in 1988. She enjoyed playing cards, and was a member of a bridge club for many years. Greta also loved to crochet and quilt. She was a member of the CWL at St. Augustine Parish. Many of her days were spent visiting and playing cards at the Seniors Hall, and she enjoyed her numerous trips to the casino, both in Saskatchewan and the United States.
