EBERL: George Aloysius

August 2, 1928 - July 20, 2013

It is with much sorrow that the family and friends of Mr. George Aloysius Eberl of Humboldt, SK, announces his sudden and unexpected death at Royal University Hospital, Saskatoon, SK, on Saturday, July 20, 2013. He was 84 years of age. George was born on August 2, 1928, to George Sr. and Cordula (nee Hermle) Eberl in St. Elizabeth's Hospital, Humboldt. The Eberls lived in the Marysburg and Burr district before moving to a farm east of Archerwill. There, George farmed with his brother Peter. They both took great pride in their farming and livestock. In 1964, George married Katie Hagenes, and became step-father to Katie's two sons, Sig and Clarence. George retired from farming in 1973 and moved into Humboldt. He began working for Ole Kuhlburg building houses, then got a job as a maintenance man at the Sisters of St. Elizabeth Convent. He was employed there until he decided he had worked long enough. However, George really never stopped working. He and Peter still did odd jobs for neighbours, family and friends. After moving to Humboldt, George, Katie, and George's brothers enjoyed going back to the farm every other Sunday, where they would visit with Clarence, Joan and the grandkids, play cards, drive out to the old farm, and look at the cows in the pasture. George is survived by two brothers: Peter Eberl of Middle Lake, SK, and Joe (Evelyn) Eberl of Calgary, AB; three sisters: Walburga Brinks of Saskatoon, SK, Mary (Gerald) Bjorgaard of Prince George, BC, and Clair (Peter) Rogers of Ottawa, ON; daughter-in-law, Joan Hagenes of Archerwill; grandchildren: Cindy (Tim) Friesen, Todd (Sandra) Hagenes, Jody Hagenes, Trixie (Pat) Black, and Oralee (Brian) Pugh; and by his nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and many friends. He will be sadly missed by all. George was predeceased by his wife, Katie (nee Leffler) (Hagenes) Eberl; parents, George Sr. and Cordula (nee Hermle) Eberl; two stepsons: Sig Hagenes and Clarence Hagenes; grandson, Oran Hagenes; great-grandson, Cole Black; three brothers: Ted Eberl, Oswald Eberl, and Leonard Eberl; and by brother-in-law, Jens Brinks. The Funeral Mass was offered at St. Augustine R.C. Church, Humboldt, on Friday, July 26, 2013, at 10:00 a.m., celebrated by Fr. Ephraim Mensah. Others taking part were: Oralee Pugh, urnberer; Chelsea Hagenes and Sylvia Robillard, scripture readers; Sylvia Robillard, intentions; Melvin and Rita Saretsky, giftbearers. Music ministry was provided by organist Dolores Hinz and the St. Augustine Parish Funeral Choir. Honorary pallbearers were "all those who shared in George's life". "A special thank you to Melvin and Rita Saretsky for being a good friend to George, especially once Peter took ill, by having him over for lunch and taking him fishing, which he really enjoyed; to Sylvia Robillard for all her help with funeral arrangements; and to Vernon and Lori Rhone for all the kindness shown to George and family." Interment will take place at Lakeside Cemetery, Archerwill, SK, at a later date. Memorial donations may be directed to either the St. Augustine Parish Fund or the St. Mary's Villa Foundation. Schuler-Lefebvre Funeral Chapel, Humboldt, SK.
