FRIESEN: FRANK

December 25, 1936 – December 7, 2016

Our amazing dad passed away quietly on Wednesday, December 7, 2016. He is survived by daughters Rhonda (Kelly) Sage and Karen (David) Carlson; granddaughters Anndrea (Jair) Poppelwell, Holly (André) Baker, Samantha (Adrian) Salahub and Emma (Meg) Carlson; great grandchildren Franchesca, Elliot, Zachariah, Rachel, Silas, Micah and Eden; sister Teana Ginter, sisters-in-law Maybelle Playter,  Linda Everatt, Violet (Rick) Hiebert, brothers-in-law Walter Kiel, Grant (Joan) Playter, Ross (Joyce) Playter and many cherished nieces and nephews. Frank was predeceased by his beloved wife Judy, parents Peter and Aganetha Friesen, parents-in-law Gertrude and Grant Playter, brother Peter Friesen and wife Dorothy, sister Agatha Hildebrand and husband Cornie, brothers-in-law Cornie Ginter, Keith Playter, Earl Playter, Garry Everatt, Kenneth Playter, sisters-in-law Edyth Everatt and husband Harry, and Eleanor Kiel. Frank grew up on a farm on the prairies of Manitoba. At 23 years old he joined the Air Force; a man looking for adventure. Judy Playter was a fortune he didn't expect to find through his service, but, there she was, standing on the other side of the fence. They were married in 1961 and began their family in 1963. Once out of service, Frank had a variety of occupations until reaching his goal of entrepreneurship. Frank and Judy worked very hard to start their first jewelry store in 1975 which subsequently grew to several different businesses.  His success was largely due to his respect for and attentiveness to his clients, business and community. Throughout the years Frank accumulated several hobbies and lifelong passions:  golf, woodworking, wine making, and world travel; in later years, he lovingly tended the little cacti he and Judy collected on their travels. His greatest passion was golf; many strong and lasting friendships were made over that little white ball. Frank lived and travelled to many places in the world, New Zealand being his absolute favorite, but it was the simple beauty of the Canadian prairies that he always called home. Frank's family brought immense joy and deep purpose to his life. To him, family extended beyond the immediate circle; it included friends, cousins, sisters, parents, brother, in-laws, and especially his nieces and nephews. For a man whose life was so full, going from one adventure to the next, he somehow managed to have time for each and every one of us. The family extends much gratitude to the staff at Humboldt District Health Complex for their respectful and compassionate care, especially in Dad’s final days. The Funeral Service for Frank was held on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. from Westminster United Church, Humboldt, officiated by Rev. Al Hingley.  Interment followed in the Legion Section of the Humboldt Public Cemetery. Memorial donations in Frank’s memory may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion, Humboldt Branch #28. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Malinoski & Danyluik Funeral Home.
