POTTS: Ezra G.
1910 - 2014
Ezra Potts, 103 years, passed away peacefully with his family at his side at Cudworth Nursing Home on April 7, 2014. Ezra was born in Elk Horn, Iowa on August 18, 1910 He graduated from Elk Horn School in 1928 and continued his education in agriculture at Iowa State College in Ames, Iowa. After one year, he relinquished studies to assist his father on the farm. In 1936, Ezra moved to Cudworth, Saskatchewan to take up farming on the land, his father had bought in earlier years. He married Dora Paquin in June, 1936. They had one son and three daughters. In 1973, after 27 years of successful farming, they sold the farm and retired to Saskatoon. "What made life so pleasant in this little area east of Cudworth were the friendly people of the community. I feel our family were so fortunate to have been located in this area." He was supportive of people, projects and events in his community. In 1974, a highlight for Ezra and Dora was a trip to Germany to visit Karl, Joan and Carmen Baumgardner. Dora died suddenly in 1975. In June, 1977 Ezra married Agnes Sires from Iowa. Ezra and Agnes enjoyed many trips to various destinations. Agnes passed away in 2008. Ezra enjoyed many years as a volunteer with the Western Development Museum in Saskatoon. He loved taking part in the threshing bee at Pionera. He volunteered for meals on wheels as well as visits to nursing homes. He loved fishing at McPhee Lake near Waskesiu. When a grandchild caught a fish, he was overjoyed. Ezra was predeceased by his mother Anna(1941), father Walter Potts(1943), brother Wallace(1943), sister Ruby Kielau(1956), brother Kenneth(2004), his infant children Darlene and Joseph and infant twin granddaughters Allison and Jennifer Fisher. Ezra is survived by his children: Dale Potts(Marilyn), son-in-law Karl Baumgardner, Carol Fisher(Tyronne) and Liela May Potts. Grandchildren: Carmen Fox(Michael), Carla McIvor(Michael), Ryan Fisher(Janet Ng). Great grandchildren: Daniella McIvor, Caroline Fox. And Agnes family: Terry Sires(Donna), Sheila Reed(Tom), grandchildren Chris Sires(Tristyn), Nathan Sires(Tiffany), and Carrie Ivans; great grandchildren: Jacob and Amelia Sires. We were one big family and Dad's love was all encompassing. Also special to Dad were his sister-in-law Joanne Potts of Elk Horn, Iowa and many nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial and a Celebration of the lives of Ezra and his daughter Joan Baumgardner will be held at St. Mary's Roman Catholic church, 211 Avenue O Â鶹ÊÓƵ, Saskatoon, SK on Saturday, May 24, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. Private Interment to follow at Woodlawn Catholic Cemetery, Saskatoon, SK. In lieu of flowers, consider St. Mary's Charities, St. Mary's Parish or a charity of your choice. Arrangements are entrusted to the SASKATOON FUNERAL HOME.
