POMEDLI: Evelyn Margaret (nee Wehage)

June 4, 1927 - September 20, 2013

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, Evelyn Margaret Pomedli of Humboldt, Saskatchewan. She entered into her eternal life at Royal University Hospital, Saskatoon, SK, on Friday, September 20, 2013, at the sweet elegant age of 86. Evelyn was born near Pilger, SK, on June 4, 1927. She attended Canvasback and Colorado schools. Evelyn went to hairdressing school in Saskatoon, worked as a nurse's aide in the mental hospital in Weyburn, babysat for her brother in Portland, worked in a fish cannery in British Columbia, and Kelly's Store in Pilger. On November 8, 1948, she married the love of her life, John Pomedli, at St. Bernard's Church, Pilger. Together they raised 11 children. They operated a mixed farming operation near Pilger and retired to Humboldt in 1992. Mom and Dad were married for almost 53 years until his passing on November 3, 2001. Mom enjoyed singing with the Silver Bells and the funeral choir, playing cards with family and friends, going for coffee, and volunteering with the church. She was an amazing quilt maker, poppy bread and apple strudel creator, and bread and cinnamon bun baker. She loved life and enjoyed it to the fullest. Her smile lit up the room even in her final hours. She had a keen sense of humor, loved a good joke, and often had one waiting in her purse to share. Her greatest pride and joy was her family. She is survived by her 11 children: Joyce Bauer(Ken Braun) of Pilger; Gordon(Brenda) of Wadena; Gloria(Ken) Sanford of Edmonton; Roger(Mary-Ann) of Englefeld; Douglas of Saskatoon; Virginia(Ken) Kolenovsky of Saskatoon; Patrick(Dolores) of Pilger; Audrey Pomedli(Ray) of Saskatoon; Joan(Richard) Skopyk of Saskatoon; Wendy(Dan) Scott of Humboldt; and Shelley(Kevin) Schell of Humboldt; 20 grandchildren: Christa Bauer(Keith), Reva and Andrew Bauer, Ryan(Tara) Pomedli, Dwight(Becky) Pomedli, Catherine Sanford, Angela(Mike) Cserny, Richard, Belinda and Brandon Pomedli, Keith and Shannon Pomedli, Tara(Kevin) Landry, Eric Pomedli, Laura(John) Strem, Michelle(Tyler), Emma and Alex Pomedli(Brittany), Elizabeth and Joshua Schell; eight great-grandchildren: Madison, McKenna, Julia, Nathan, Jenna, Sienna, Nadya, and Kaylex; a brother-in-law, Jack Claridge of New Zealand; and by numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Johnny, in 2001; son-in-law, Duane Bauer; her parents, Bernard and Margaret(Bittmann) Wehage; and by her siblings: Lawrence(Elsa) Wehage, Catherine(Joe) Jurgens, Leonard(Susan) Wehage, and Doreen Claridge. The Prayer Service for Evelyn was held at St. Augustine R.C. Church, Humboldt, on Thursday, September 26, 2013 at 7:30 p.m., led by Nestor Trach, and organist Darlene Cash. A musical selection was provided by Joshua Schell. Scripture readers were Brandon and Belinda Pomedli and the eulogy was delivered by Keith Pomedli. The Funeral Mass was offered at St. Augustine R.C. Church on Friday, September 27, 2013 at 2:00 p.m., celebrated by Fr. Ephraim Mensah. Others taking part were: Eric Pomedli, crossbearer; Josh Schell and Julia Pomedli, scripture readers; Elizabeth Schell, intentions; Helen and Wilfred Rabner and Joan Jackson, giftbearers; Nestor and Liz Trach and Darlene Cash, eucharistic ministers; Annie Baron, Olga Chuckrowski and Mathilda Jansen, memorial table attendants. Music ministry was provided by director Loretta Schugmann, organist Marie Aubin, and the St. Augustine Parish Funeral Choir. An honor guard was formed by members of the St. Augustine C.W.L. Honorary pallbearers were "all those who shared in Evelyn's life". Active pallbearers were Gordon, Roger, Douglas and Patrick Pomedli. Interment followed at St. Augustine R.C. Cemetery. Memorial donations may be directed to Humboldt District Hospital Spiritual Care and the Canadian Diabetic Association. The family would like to thank Dr. Keith and his surgical team, and the nursing staff at RUH and Humboldt District Hospital for their excellent care and compassion.
