The death of Mrs. Emily Katherine (nee Paproski) Knaus of Lanigan, SK, occurred at Lanigan Hospital, Lanigan, on Thursday, December 5, 2013. She was 96 years of age. Emily was born on October 29, 1917 on the family farm in the Lanigan district to Peter and Mary (nee Samoleski) Paproski. She attended Valleyfield School obtaining her grade 10 and then went on to help out on the farm and also did housekeeping for her older siblings. On October 25, 1939, she married Louis Knaus at St. Mary's country church in the Lanigan district and together they farmed in the Manresa district near LeRoy, SK. They were blessed with six children: Beverley, Edward, Roger, Gerald, Dale and Gordon. Emily was a happy homemaker and enjoyed helping with the farming operation. She loved tending to her garden and continued to do gardening well into her mid 90's. She also loved quilting and every family member owns one of the quilts she made. One of her favorite pastimes was playing bingo which she thoroughly enjoyed. Louis passed away in October of 1972 but Emily continued to live on the farm until 1977 when she had a house built in Lanigan. Emily was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and always made sure that everyone was well fed. She had a strong Christian faith and at one time in her life attended church every day for 20 years. Due to declining health, she moved into Central Parkland Lodge in Lanigan April of 2013 where she resided until her death.
