It is with great sadness that we the family announce the passing of Elmer Strueby from Nipawin, Saskatchewan on July 29, 2016. He has gone to his eternal home in heaven after a lengthy struggle with cancer. Elmer was born June 4, 1934 in Humboldt and grew up on a farm in Marysburg, Saskatchewan. He was an avid sportsmen and always had a great love for hockey, baseball, golf and curling. He married his best friend Annabelle Strueby which he knew all his life on November 21, 1955. Although a heavy duty mechanic by trade he always worked in the agriculture industry while continuing to play ball and hockey.Ìý Elmer and Annabelle had four children Kathy, Linda, Brad and Randy and lived in several communities in Saskatchewan prior to settling in Nipawin in 1974. He retired in 1999 as the Grains Manager at Canamera Foods, the canola crushing plant in Nipawin. Elmer continued to golf and curl long after his retirement. Elmer was a honest, kind and patient man. He was never critical or judgemental. He loved to laugh and has a great sense of humour especially while playing cards. Elmer loved spending time with family and friends. He was loved and respected. His legacy will live on through his wife of 61 years, his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Elmer was predeceased by his daughter Kathy Marcotte, 2 brothers Donald and Gerald Strueby and by his parents Meinrad and Celia Strueby. Elmer is survived by his wife Annabelle, 3 children Linda Mortenson (Ron), Brad Strueby (Colleen), Randy Strueby (Cheryl), son in law Willy Marcotte; 7 grandchildren Nicole (Vance), Michelle (Ian), Spencer, Jennifer, Alex, Doug, Micah; 5 great grandchildren Milah, Zoe, Auden, Lucas, Seraphina; 2 brothers Ken Strueby (Joan) and Jim Strueby; a sister Mary Anne Moore (Doug) and numerous relatives and friends. Arrangements are entrusted to Coventry Funeral Services in Nipawin. Funeral Service was held at St. Eugene’s Parish in Nipawin, Saskatchewan on Saturday August 6, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. Donations can be made to the Cancer Society or charity of your choice.
