Elizabeth (nee Zentner) DeSchryverNovember 25, 1917 - August 12, 2012
The death of Mrs. Elizabeth (nee Zentner) DeSchryver of Quill Plains Centennial Lodge, Watson, SK, (and formerly of Englefeld, SK), occurred at Humboldt District Hospital, Humboldt, SK, on Sunday, August 12, 2012. She was 94 years of age, and the last surviving member of the Joseph and Justina (nee Weisgerber) Zentner family as well as her husband's family, Peter and Sidonia (nee Behiel) DeSchryver. Elizabeth was born on November 25, 1917, to Joseph and Justina (nee Weisgerber) Zentner at Senate, SK. In 1923, she moved with her parents to a farm two and a half miles south of Romance and attended Natika School. In 1929, the family moved to a farm two and a half miles east of Romance where she attended Early Dawn School. As one of the oldest children, Elizabeth helped her mom in the various duties involved in raising the younger children until she married Alfons DeSchryver on November 22, 1939. She and Alfons farmed and raised a family of 10 children. They lived on the farm until 1963 when they retired to Englefeld. Over the years she was a group leader in 4H, an active member of the Hospital Helpers at Watson, a Community College sewing instructor, a member of The Catholic Women's League, and a member of the New Horizons in Englefeld. Elizabeth loved sewing as well as creating her own patterns. Other interests were needlework, baking for her large family, preserving all the garden produce Alfons brought into the house, fishing at LaRonge, bingo and playing cards. Even though she was confined to a wheelchair, Elizabeth lived in her own home until February, 2010, when her health began failing and she decided it was time to move to the Quill Plains Lodge in Watson. Her huge family and many friends visited her often and were always greeted with her beautiful smile and a pleasant conversation. "The Lord bless you and keep you; The Lord make His face shine on you, and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up his countenance on you, and give you peace." (Numbers 6:24-26) Elizabeth will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her 10 children, 39 grandchildren, 92 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren: Gerald (Clementine) of LaRonge (six children, 18 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren); Marlene (Arthur) Bertrand of Victoria, BC, (two children, five grandchildren); Marvin (Patricia) of Denzil (four children, 12 grandchildren); Beatrice (James) Wacholtz of Englefeld (4 children, 12 grandchildren); Dianne (Roger) Strunk of Englefeld (six children, 18 grandchildren); Linda Dyok of New Westminster, BC; Brenda (Ron) Walby of Earl Grey (four children, five grandchildren); Carol (Roman) Zimmerman of Englefeld (six children, 12 grandchildren); Valerie Haddon (Lloyd Mack) of Pleasantdale (five children, eight grandchildren); and Douglas (Barbara) of Englefeld (four children, five grandchildren); and by numerous nieces, nephews, and in-laws. She was predeceased by her husband, Alfons DeSchryver (2004); two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; parents, Joseph and Justina (nee Weisgerger) Zentner; four sisters and five brothers; and by Alfons' two sisters and three brothers.
