KLEEFELD: Doreen Clara
June 12, 1930 - August 4, 2013
The death of Mrs. Doreen Clara (nee Korte) Kleefeld of St. Mary's Villa, Humboldt, SK, (and formerly of Muenster, SK), occurred peacefully at her residence on Sunday, August 4, 2013, with her husband at her side. She was 83 years of age. Doreen was born on June 12, 1930, to Benedict and Hildegard (nee Muyres) Korte in Humboldt. She grew up on the Korte family farm in the Muenster district and attended Golden Rule School. One evening in 1948, she attended a dance in St. Gregor where she met her future husband, John Kleefeld. In 1950, Doreen and John were married in St. Peter's Cathedral at Muenster. They began their life together on the Kleefeld farm. As well as being a busy homemaker for her husband and children, Doreen assisted with all aspects of the farming operation, including driving the tractor, grain truck, etc. In 1981, she and John retired from farming and moved into Muenster. It was there that Doreen spent many delightful hours with her grandchildren. Her other passions included gardening and baking; she had two freezers which were constantly filled with the fruits of her labor. As well, Doreen enjoyed spending time with her family camping and fishing up north. In 2009, Doreen and John relocated to East Side Village in Humboldt. Due to failing health, in 2012 Doreen became a resident of St. Mary's Villa. Doreen was known as a very warm, charitable, unselfish, kind and loving person who always put others ahead of herself. Of utmost importance to her were her husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her faith - which was always unwavering. Doreen will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her husband of 63 years, John Kleefeld of Humboldt; two daughters, one son, six grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren: Jeanette Barlage of Humboldt and family, Michael (Carla) Barlage and children Logan, Noah and Paige; Mark (Joyce) Barlage and children Breanna, Dawson, Jonathon Barlage (Brianne Gerwing); Joyce (Ervin) McGrath of LeRoy, SK, and family, Christina (Kevin) Martens McGrath and children Mackenzie, Kaia, Ryker and Kane; and Ashley (Kendra) McGrath and children William and Rowan; and Lloyd (Gail) Kleefeld of Muenster and daughter Sarah Kleefeld; sister, Leona Kleefeld; brothers, Don (Marilyn) Korte, and Allan (Karen) Korte; sister-in-law, Rosella (Mel) Hamil; sisters-in-law: Charlotte (nee Kleefeld) Kuemper, and Shirley (nee Kleefeld) Wolbaum; and by numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter, Carol Ann Kleefeld, son-in-law, Don Barlage, grandson, Derek McGrath; parents, Benedict and Hildegard (nee Muyres) Korte; sister, Mary Korte (in infancy); brothers, Benno Korte, Ernie Korte, and Norman Korte (in infancy); and by numerous in-laws of the Kleefeld/Willenborg families. The Prayer Service for Doreen was held at St. Peter's R.C. Cathedral, Muenster, SK, on Wednesday, August 7, 2013, at 7:30 p.m., led by Donna Lee Bergermann. Cathedral on Thursday, August 8, 2013, at 10:30 a.m., celebrated by Fr. Daniel Muyres, OSB.
