David Michael Klashinsky

January 26, 1937 - January 26, 2013

It is with profound sadness that the family of David "Dave" Michael Klashinsky of Humboldt, SK, announces his sudden and unexpected death at Royal University Hospital, Saskatoon, SK, on Saturday, January 26, 2013, his 76th birthday. Dave was born on January 26, 1937, to Wendil and Anne (nee Froess) Klashinsky in St. Elizabeth's Hospital at Humboldt. He grew up on the family farm south of Carmel and attended Cranich Lake School. The Klashinsky family were members of Immaculate Conception R.C. Church in the area. During his teenage years, Dave worked for various farmers. In 1957, he met Theresa Brecht of the Viscount, SK, area. They were married on October 12, 1957, in St. John's Country Church, not far from the farm where Theresa was raised. Following their wedding, Dave and Theresa moved to Saskatoon where Dave worked as a male orderly at University Hospital. They resided in Saskatoon for three years and then moved to Humboldt. Dave switched careers and was employed as an electrician. In the 1960's, he began a career in dry walling, an occupation which spanned over 45 years. Dave never really fully retired. He and Theresa shared a passion for music and had their own little band. They entertained at innumerable functions and for various occasions all around Humboldt and area. When they spent winters in Arizona, they also entertained there. In addition, Dave enjoyed playing pool and curling, activities he also excelled at; he won numerous trophies at those sports and was once a Brier representative for Saskatchewan. A man with an ever-present smile, outgoing personality, great sense of humor, and the gift of gab, he loved to visit, socialize and tell stories, which he was very, very good at! Dave will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife of 55 years, Theresa (nee Brecht) Klashinsky of Humboldt; one son, Dean Klashinsky (fiancée Robyn Scott) of Humboldt; one daughter, Debra (Russ) Thomas of Regina, SK; two brothers and one sister: Ken (Sylvia) Klashinsky of Humboldt; Jeanette (Ben) Brecht of Regina; and Don (Marilyn) Klashinsky of Humboldt; and by numerous nieces, nephews, and other in-laws of the Brecht family. He was predeceased by his mother, Anne (nee Froess) Klashinsky (May 22, 2005); and by his father, Wendil Klashinsky (February 6, 2010). The Funeral Mass was offered at St. Augustine R.C. Church, Humboldt, on Thursday, January 31, 2013, at 11:00 a.m., celebrated by Fr. Gregory Roth. Others taking part were: Brian Klashinsky, intentions; Carrie Klashinsky and Gordon Klashinsky, scripture readers. Music ministry was provided by the St. Augustine Parish Funeral Choir. Honorary pallbearers were "all those who shared in Dave's life". Active pallbearers were Steve Klashinsky, Brian Klashinsky, Gordon Klashinsky, Dennis Lucyk, Bill Monz and Don Schlacter. Interment followed at St. Augustine R.C. Cemetery. Memorial donations may be directed to either the Canadian Cancer Society or the St. Augustine Parish Building Fund. Schuler-Lefebvre Funeral Chapel, Humboldt, SK.
