TONN: CLARANovember 6, 1914 - October 24, 2011
The death of Mrs. Clara (nee Schumacher) Tonn of St. Mary's Villa, Humboldt, SK, occurred at Humboldt District Hospital on Monday, October 24, 2011. She was 96 years of age. Clara was born on November 6, 1914, to Charles and Mary (nee Deiss) Schumacher at home on their farm in the Naicam district. She grew up there and attended a rural school in the area. Following her education, Clara moved to Humboldt and worked at Richman's Department Store. On February 5, 1942, she married Leo Tonn at St. George's R.C. Church in Naicam. Three children, two daughters and one son, were born to them. Clara and Leo began their life together in Humboldt. In September 1951, they opened their own business, City Service Station. Clara was a "stay-at-home mom" until 1960, when she began working with Leo at their service station as a front desk receptionist and accountant. She retired in 1972. Clara's favorite pastimes included traveling, fishing, gardening, playing cards, baking, and having friends in to visit. Her family meant the world to her, so spending time with them was her greatest source of joy. Clara will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by two children, five grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren: Jean (Michael) Martin of Calgary, AB, and family, Jackie Martin of Chestermere, AB, and sons Mitchell and Tyler; and Brenda (Mel) Hoffman of LaRonge and family, Dawn Hoffman of Saskatoon, and Jeanna (Rick) Kitzler of Martensville and daughters Ashley and Emily; daughter-in-law, Amy Tonn of Saskatoon and children, Kyla (Jason) Horner of Saskatoon and son Camden, and Ryan (Anita) Tonn of Calgary, AB; and by numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Leo Tonn (August 24, 2002); son, Lorne Tonn; parents, Charles and Mary (nee Deiss) Schumacher; brother, George Schumacher; and by three sisters: Mary, Lena and Bertha. The Funeral Service for Clara was held at St. Augustine R.C. Church, Humboldt, on Friday, October 28, 2011, at 10:30 a.m., officiated by Fr. Emile April. The cross bearer was Dawn Hoffman. Honorary pallbearers were "all those who shared in Clara's life." Active Pallbearers were Ralph, Ray, Arnold, Michael and Aaron Fleischhacker and Leon Newmeyer. Interment will take place at a later date. Memorial donations may be directed to the Humboldt District Hospital Spiritual Care fund. Schuler-Lefebvre Funeral Chapel, Humboldt, SK. (306-682-4114)
