FUGGER: Catherine Barbara

March 26, 1921 - January 6, 2014

It is with great sadness that the family of Mrs. Catherine Barbara (nee Lange) Fugger of St. Mary's Villa, Humboldt, SK, announce her death Monday January 6th, at age 92, in Humboldt District Hospital. Catherine was born on March 26, 1921, to John and Olivia (nee Stauber) Lange at their farm home in the Pilger district. She grew up there, attended St. Bernard's Rural School, and helped on the family farm. On November 6, 1940, Catherine married Robert Fugger at Assumption R.C. Church, Marysburg, SK. Catherine was very instrumental in running the farming operation alongside her husband. As well, she was a busy homemaker and mother of six children, five daughters and one son. In 1975, she and Robert retired from farming and moved into Humboldt. They enjoyed their retirement years together, pursuing their favorite interests. Catherine had always loved domestic activities; she was an excellent seamstress, and her cooking and baking skills were second-to-none. She was also a congenial hostess who always welcomed visitors with a warm and inviting smile, followed by attentive conversation, and delicious home cooking and baking. No one ever left her home hungry, or without a care package. On Monday, February 21, 1994, Robert passed away. Catherine continued to reside in their home until May 1998 when she moved to a suite at Chapman Place in Humboldt. Due to failing health, on November 10, 2006, she became a resident of St. Mary's Villa. Catherine was a very special lady; her gentle personality, warm and caring heart, endeared her to all who knew her. Her family will forever cherish the memory of what a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother she was. Catherine will be lovingly remembered by four children: Bernice (John) Van Der Velden of Saskatoon; John (Connie) Fugger of Saskatoon; Carol Muyard (Gerald) of Humboldt; and Charlotte (Murray) Bailey of Saskatoon; 15 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Anna Therres of Humboldt and Donna Lee (Jordan) Bergermann of Muenster; brother-in-law, Arnold Ecker of Marysburg; and by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert Fugger (February 21, 1994); two daughters: Doreen Schreiner and Judy Salikin; her parents, John and Olivia (nee Stauber) Lange; two sisters: Marie Korte and Bertha Ecker; one brother, Adolph Lange; two sons-in-law: Glen Schreiner and Phil Salikin; one sister-in-law, Bernadine Lange; and by three brothers-in-law: John Korte, Fred Jurgens and Jim Dunne. The Funeral Mass was offered at St. Augustine R.C. Church, Humboldt, on Thursday, January 9, 2014, at 2:00 p.m., celebrated by Fr. Ephaim Mensah. Others taking part were: Sydney Olchoway, crossbearer; Craig Martinka and Troy Martinka, altar servers; Morgan and Garret Korte, scripture readers; Garret Korte, intentions; Jade Smith and Abbie Korte, giftbearers; Jordan and Donna Lee Bergermann, communion ministers; Lori Adamko and Karen Ramler, memorial table attendants. Music ministry was provided by the St. Augustine Parish Funeral Choir. Honorary pallbearers were "all those who shared in Catherine's life". Active pallbearers were: Brent Schreiner, Regan Muyard, Derek Muyard, Austin Muyard, Jeremy Forster, and Jason Forster. Interment followed at St. Augustine R.C. Cemetery, Humboldt. Memorial donations may be directed to either the Alzheimer Society or the St. Augustine Parish Building Fund. Schuler-Lefebvre Funeral Chapel, Humboldt, SK.
