It is with heavy hearts the family of Ben Seidel, 82 years of Lakeview Pioneer Lodge, Wakaw and formerly of Bruno announces his passing on Tuesday, December 30, 2014ÌýÌýat his residence. Ben was born on November 12, 1932 in Bruno to John and Veronica (nee Schriml) Seidel the eldest of five sons. He obtained his education in Bruno. He grew up on the family farm. Ben loved all aspects of farming right from a little boy. He helped out at the family Dairy farm and later began to farm on his own. On August 21, 1963 he married the love of his life Annavon Meyer at St. Bruno R. C. Church and together they began their farming career. Throughout Ben’s working life he had many jobs.ÌýHe worked at the post office, Bruno Rural Telephone, and was the Imperial Oil Agent in Bruno for 30 years, but his life passion was farming. He loved his chickens and gave them special treatment. He never entered the chicken coop unannounced; he would knock before entering as not to scare them. Ben would hand wash every egg to make sure they were perfectly cleaned. Ben and Annavon enjoyed many casino bus trips, not necessarily for gambling but to check out the country side and spent hours visiting and getting to know many people. They also traveled to BC to visit family many times. Ben spent hours reading current and past events, his passion was to read the Western Producer, front to back and a dozen times over. He was a very social person who knew many people near and far. Ben was into recycling before recycling was cool! He fixed absolutely everything that could be fixed and only when it was unfixable would he then part with the item. He would darn socks, repair gloves, mitts and any other item large or small that needed attention. He would spend hours in his shop tinkering. That is where he had two special drawers – one for old farming magazines and the other full of candy for when he would have special visitors like his grandchildren. Every Saturday night the radio would be dialled on the station where the Polka Party Dance Time would air. Ben loved to listen to polka music. Ben always saw the good in everyone and was a very fair man always sharing his business with every retailer around the area. Ben was involved in many community organizations; Knights of Columbus, Bruno Seniors Center, and Credit Union Board. Ben’s loving, caring and gentle personality will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife of 51 years, ANNAVON Seidel of Bruno; four children, 11 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren: Michele (Wayne) Hoppe of Bruno and family: Shane (Tricia) Hoppe of Bruno and baby due Feb. 4th, Kimberly (Dustin) Folk of Saskatoon and baby due Jan. 4th, Stephanie (Devon) Dosch of Saskatoon and Hillary (Jonathon) Kochan of Wakaw and daughter Peyton; Jody (Arden) Sobush and family Landon and Mikayla; Chris (Rhonda) Seidel and family Jayden and Rylan; and Peggy (Roger) Dauvin and family Jensen, Blake, and Tori all of Saskatoon; brothers: Mark (Shirley) Seidel of Humboldt and Henry (Donna) Seidel of Saskatoon; mother-in-law Frances Meyer of Kamloops, BC, brothers and sisters-in-law: Duane (Eileen) Meyer, Cathy (Brian) Schriml and Colleen (Gord) Meyer all of Kamloops, BC; and numerous nieces and nephews.ÌýBen was predeceased by his parents John and Veronica Seidel, brothers: Gilbert and Raymond; and sister-in-law Marj and father-in-law Francis Meyer. A Prayer Service was held on Friday, January 2, 2015 at 7:30 pm and the Funeral Mass was held on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at 2:00 pm. Both services were held from St. Bruno R.C. Church Bruno, SK. Interment followed at St. Bruno R.C. Cemetery. Memorial Donations in Ben’s memory may be directed to the Bruno Seniors Center, St. Bruno Parish, Parkinson’s Society of Saskatchewan, or Lakeview Pioneer Lodge, Wakaw. Arrangements were entrusted to Malinoski & Danyluik Funeral Home, Humboldt.
