KUN: Angelina

March 16, 1925 - October 23, 2013

The death of Mrs. Angelina (nee Matei) Kun of Lakeview Pioneer Lodge, Wakaw, SK, (and formerly of Humboldt, SK), occurred at her residence on Wednesday, October 23, 2013. She was 88 years of age. Angelina was born on March 16, 1925, to Traian and Dragina (nee Krstec) Matei in Mramorak, Yugoslavia. She came to Canada as a child with her parents and two brothers. They made their home in Regina, where Angelina grew up. Her education in the Regina School system ended in Grade 5 when her mother died, and she had to take on the role of a mother to help raise her seven other siblings. Angelina married Steve Kun of Bremen, SK, in 1956. They resided on the Kun family homestead, where they ran a mixed-farm operation and raised their family. Angelina and Steve were members of the Apostolic Christian Church of the Nazarene. Their faith was very important to them, and they were devoted to their church. On January 1, 2006, Steve passed away. Angelina loved gardening and her passion for it never ended, even when she could hardly manage it. She also loved "pretty" colors and would draw detailed gardening plans, complete with the drawing of flowers, placement in the garden, and colored each flower as if it was a photograph of her garden for the next year. Angelina showed great interest in the people she met, who they were, where they came from, and who they were related to, and kept obituaries of all those she knew. It was late in life when she discovered her many relatives who were now in Canada and the United States, and collected every detail about them in letters and pictures. Angelina lived a quiet, simple life, and appreciated all things and those who came her way. Angelina was the last surviving member of her family. Angelina will be lovingly remembered by four children, 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild: Angeline Shook of Denver, CO, and family, Ian (Ashley) Shook, and their son Chance, Joy Shook, and Renee Shook; Steve P. (Helga) Kun of Kitchener, ON, and family, Krystel Kun and Steven Christopher Kun; Trian (Julia) Kun of Elmira, ON; and Albert (Janet) Kuhn of Quesnel, BC, and family, Mark Kuhn, Matthew Kuhn, Chelsea Kuhn, Hope Kuhn, and Nick Kuhn; and by numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Steve Kun Sr. (January 1, 2006); one son, Richard Thomas Kun; father, Traian Matei (October 25, 1964); mother, Dragina (nee Krstec) Kun (April 5, 1939); four brothers and three sisters: Abram Matei, Traian Matei, John Matei, Jeff Matei, Joe Matei, Helen Needham, Lydia Lumsden, and Mary Matei. The Funeral Service for Angelina was held at Schuler-Lefebvre Funeral Chapel, Humboldt, Saskatchewan on Monday, October 28, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. officiated by Pastor Robert Ritzmann. Music ministry was provided by Arthur Kun, guitarist. The eulogy was delivered by Helga Kun, and words of remembrance were given by Steve P. Kun. A recital of Angelina's favorite hymns was presented by Krystel Kun. Pallbearers were Steve P. Kun, Trian Kun, Albert Kuhn, Steven Christopher Kun, Mark Kuhn, Matthew Kuhn and Nick Kuhn. Interment followed at the Apostolic Christian Church Cemetery in the Bruno district. Memorial donations may be directed to the Apostolic Christian Church (Nazarene) Avon Rd.
