Pitzel: Alvina (nee Muyres) February 6, 1919 - March 7, 2013
Alivna Henrietta Pitzel (Muyres) passed away on March 7, 2013 in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. She will be sadly missed and always remembered by her daughter, Sandra Schlosser (Rudy Voytek), Misssissauga, Ontario, her son Michael Pitzel, Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, her grandchildren, Kim Schlosser (John MacLean), Burlington, Ontario, Jay Schlosser, Kelowna, British Columbia, Chris Pitzel, Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Jennifer Pitzel, Edmonton, Alberta, and her granddaughter Jemma MacLean Schlosser, her sister Helen Boehm, Calgary, Alberta and many nieces and nephews. Alvina was predeceased by her husband, Raymond Pitzel, in 1957, her son, Wayne Pitzel, in 2008, her daughter, Mary Aroon, in 1950, her parents, Clara (Platz) and Leonard Muyres, her brother Alfred and her sisters Hilda (Korte), Ida, and Laura (Bcck). Alvina was born on a farm near St. Gregor, Saskatchewan. She lived all of her life in the St. Gregor/Humboldt area with the exception of the last year when she was forced to move to Moose Jaw due to the closure of The Enriched Housing Unit at St Mary's Villa. The move was not easy for her as she greatly missed her friends and life in Humboldt, but she was happy to be nearer to Michael and Chris. Alvina started her career in the in St Gregor Post Office and continued in Humboldt when she moved. She married Raymond Pitzel in 1947, leaving work to raise her family. She returned to the Post Office after her children had started school. She loved her job and the people. In recent years would often say she would still be working if she was able to. Over the years she took great pride in taking care of her children and her home. She sewed figure skating costumes, took her children to Waldsea Lake, and encouraged them to join the band, girl guides or whatever they were interested in. She also enjoyed gardening, knitting and embroidery and in more recent years she embraced modern technology and spent many hours sending e-mails, surfing the world wide web and playing computer solitaire. She preferred her computer to watching TV. Alvina travelled widely visiting the US a number of times, Mexico as well as Spain/Portugal/Morocco, and visiting her children and grandchildren which was her favourite. She also enjoyed numerous family vacations which included her 75th birthday in Cancun, 85th in Disney World, an Alaskan cruise for her 90th , though her favourite and last, was in Las Vegas at the age of 92. She was a member of the "Group of Thirteen", a group of thirteen women her age who prepared a meal for the members of the group each year on their birthday. For her eightieth, (79+1) birthday, a special celebration was prepared. The ladies, as well as family and friends were invited. Entertainment was provided. To end the evening she blew the candles out on five birthday cakes, enough to feed all!! She was a people person and loved her family and friends and wanted each one to know to know that. A joint memorial service for Alvina Pitzel and her son, Wayne Pitzel will be held at St. Augustine Church in Humboldt, on Saturday, May 18, 2013 at 2:00 PM. Burial to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada would be appreciated.
